Went to get a photo taken with the Rufus Stone and read the inscription as we’d heard about it but never visited. No one else around at all so nice and peaceful and a nice spot in the New Forest. Worth a visit.

This site is a little off the beaten track but well worth a short visit. Our route took as along a narrow lane and across a ford! The autumn colours were amazing. The 'stone' gives you all the information and is well worth reading.

Historic little spot in a scenic part of the forest. Famed for the assination of the old king Rufus. Actually quite eerie strolling around at the scene of the crime.

My first visit to this pub and my first impressions are that its a lovely little pub with friendly helpful staff. We were going to eat there but there was a 45-60 minute wait for food which was a little too long for hungry stomachs....More

You can believe the story or not, that aside its a pleasant area in the forest to visit. It is easy to find and made for a pleasant walk.

Sited close to the spot where William II was 'accidentally' killed by an errant arrow when out hunting, as stated on this monument, it is more likely that this unpopular King was deliberately targeted for regicide here given the then very remote location. This modest...More

Stopped at this little gem along our route and so pleased to have done so. A very interesting piece of history, also trying to visualise William on his horse by the oak 900 yrs ago. A great place to stop.

There is really nothing to see...just a metal marker, that's all. It's also debatable as to whether this was the actual site of the deed. On the plus side it is free to visit and park.

Rufus stone is about 10mins from my house and is a real asset to the local area, obvisly there is a historical interest , but I come here to have freedom and be at peace with nature. We don't come here as often as we...More
