    We love it here
We love the rare breeds and come fairly regularly as we have memberships, meaning we can stay all day or just pop in for a little while! Great activities during holidays etc and overall we love it, the only negative thing i will say (and I feel bad saying it) is the food has got SO expensive. I understand everything has gone up in price and you need to make a profit but for many families it just isn't affordable. I'm sure the children's lunchbox is now nearly £8?! I used to able to buy food but we mostly just bring our own now because it just isn't doable for us. Otherwise a lovely day out for all.
We're so glad you enjoy your memberships with the Rare Breeds Centre and have registered your unhappiness with our restaurant prices. We hope to see you back soon... maybe for our Halloween entertainment between October 21st and 29th? It will be extra fun for no extra price 😊

    Lovely place
Went with daughter and 2 grandchildren (10 and 6) myself and wife, what a lovely place nice farmyard animals, facilities to was hands after touching animals etc tractor ride pig racing. Its a oast charity so has housing for disabled ppl onsite and believe they also employ disabled ppl as well, which I find really nice what a great thing to be done. Lots of friendly staff and the shows with fartwoofer and her gentleman sidekick were really entertaining and made ppl laugh, kids and adults alike, would recommend the place to anyone.
Thank you for your review! So glad you and your family enjoy visiting us! We do indeed, The Canterbury Oast Trust is a charity set up to help adults with learning disabilities, they live, work and learn life skills :)

    Fantastic day out
Fantastic day out. Centre is well maintained and animals cared for brilliantly. 5yr old loved the animal petting, she went from being too scared to loving it, stroking the piglets, rabbits, guinea pigs and goats. Tractor ride was good, stopping twice for children to get out and run around the adventure playground and see the animals. We didn’t use the cafe, brought our own lunch, there were plenty of places to sin with shelter.
Thank you for your review! So happy to hear you enjoyed your day out!

A great day out for the family (young children).
What a great day out (even if it’s raining, as it was!) the little ones loved it and so did the adults. Lots to keep everyone amused and interested. I think people have to remember it’s a farm and not a sterile environment, saying that, there are so many handwashing stations available, there’s no excuse to maintain hygiene. We will definitely return…
Even the rain can't stop the fun at our farm! So glad to hear everyone had a good visit, and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review!

    What a lovely day
Visited today with four little ones. We had a superb day. On arrival there were plenty of staff on hand to organise the parking. The farm itself is just great for children. Loads of animals to see with lots of very helpful staff on hand to share their knowledge and make the day that bit more interesting. There were plenty of picnic benches all over the site and the toilets were really clean. What made the children’s day was the staff in the children’s barn where children can feed and stroke the animals, they were just so helpful and kind. Well done guys, you gave us a great day.
Thank you for such a wonderful review! Our farm team love working alongside our visitors and making sure they have a educational, enjoyable visit!

    Marvellous mud
We had a fantastic day out today with our 3 and 1year old. We were there from 10.45-close and didn't even make it soft play! So much to see and do and great value farm entry. Understandably very muddy which added to the fun for our little people but do bring wellies and a change of clothes. Didn't give 5 stars as toilets by playpark were dirty literally covered in mud where little people's wellies had hit the bowls and all over the floor with no hand towels left and the food was really disappointing. Brie and chutney pannini was missing chutney in half and kids meal (£7 for 7 items) had processed burger cheese in the cheese sandwich which is not what I would expect from a farm shop. Sauces were also provided in single use sachets which seemed to contradict the Eco message on their sandwich packaging. Jackets were £6 with toppings extra (cheese +£2). Bin was covered in mould and restaurant seating was very busy by 11.45 with people having to sit outside. We drove an hour to visit and will definitely come back but will bring our own food. We also waited half an hour in the lamb tunnel for meet the lambs only to be told we had to join the back of a queue that had formed outside which was really disappointing as there were no signs and we had got there early on purpose. This meant our toddlers waited over 50mins for a 2 min experience. I know we were in the same boat as a lot of others. Once we did get to our turn probably 20mins later we were asked to be really quick as the que was long and people were waiting so I advise waiting outside and getting there before the allocated time in busy days. Staff were really knowledgeable about the animals and I feel my children learnt a lot and had loads of fun. The woman working in the animal handling with bright hair was there all day today and was fantastic with our children from start to finish, we popped by on our way out and were some of the last to leave and she still took the time to explain what she was doing with the animals to shut them away and care for them, this made our trip thank you.
Thank you for your review! I will pass on your concerns about our restaurant to our catering manager. So glad you enjoyed meeting the lambs and your children learnt something from our farm team!

    Rare breeds centre
Had an amazing Sunday with my family. Lots to see and do, very muddy, but that's the English weather for you. Loved the children's petting zoo, lots of animals to see, and pet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Tractor ride, butterfly House not open until mid May. Highly recommended place to visit, picnic area , play area and gift shop not too expensive.
Brilliant to hear you had an amazing visit! Our butterfly tunnel is back open now! Thank you for recommending us :)

    Brilliant place
We regularly visit the rare breeds as we are local and my children love it there. Always different activities going on and so much to do for everyone. There is so much to explore there at the rare breeds that you just cannot do it all in one day. We absolutely love the petting barn getting the hands on experience with all the animals and loved that there were new baby piglets. We love that you can just go round and round all day back and forth from activities. The two playgrounds are fab and my children never want to leave. When we last visited we were slightly sad that the tractor ride had changed. We used to love it with the hay bales and the kids being able to stand on them and look out it just gave it so much more of a farm feel. Other than that we love the place and will be back again
Thanks for your review! So glad to hear you love visiting us, the summer holidays is set to promise lots of brand new activities, if you can pop back in. Our new trailer ride may not have hay bales however as an accessible trailer, those in wheelchairs now have the opportunity to join in the fun.

Fun farm with lots to do for all ages - playing, animal encounters and general farm experience.
Beautiful farm doing amazing work educating children and families in a fun way, and providing homes and employment as it is a charity - Canterbury Oast Trust. Opportunity to be hands on with many different types of farm animals, tractor rides, wider farm to explore, piggy racing and piggy feeding. Lots of rare breeds with a trail identification sheet. Butterfly tunnel with many different and colourful species. Pretty gardens. Three huge outdoor play areas and one indoor one to accommodate the British weather and different ages. Lovely shop, plant shop and restaurant. Refreshment stalls too. Plenty of hand washing facilities. A fun and memorable day for everyone.
Thank you for such a lovely review! Glad to hear you had such a memorable day, and hope you can visit again soon!

    GOOD FUN
Had a great day with the children watching the pig race and the sheep fancy dress. The centre us clean and the staff all friendly with good knowledge of the animals. The kids got to feed the pigs touch vertualy every animal as it is a hands on place. The butterfly shed is amazing as they land on you which is good. Price is not bad £50 for a family of 4 and you can stay all day.
So glad you had alot of fun when you visited us! Our butterfly tunnel is one of our favourite places too!

Our visit was a day of 2 halves with the attraction itself scoring very well but the cafe value for money letting it down badly.

The attraction has more to see than I was expecting, with birds of prey and beautiful woodland walks alongside farm animals. There wasn’t an actual birds of prey display on on the day of our visit but was invited by the handler to come and watch one of the birds having its training flights which was very appreciated.

The woodland walk is a definite dry weather activity as some of the paths were a little boggy a day after having rained in the area. Some of the animals are available to pet and are very approachable and in the present climate there was plenty of opportunity to wash hands around the site.

The cafe that was able to be open, was closed, with limited service to an outside seating area via order and collection hatches. The prices were quite high and the food not of expected quality £5 for a pre packed sandwich, tuna & sweet corn, cheese & ham etc.

We booked a 1 hour falconry experience for a family of three which included entry. In short: amazing experience really reasonably priced and Colin was super knowledgeable. We met several birds up close and personal even a large owl , flying one ( a Harris Hawk). We learnt so much about these amazing creatures.

The rest of the park is great also - focusing on engaging with the animals - from farm animals to birds.

Super day out and even better that it supports a great charity.

Just got back from a fantastic day and we have already decided to go back soon. We went for a family day trip with a 3 year old and baby in the pram and were impressed because there's something for everyone inc. a welly wash which we used for the pram!

The animals are well kept, everything is clean and tidy. The food in the cafe was great and the 3 play areas (yes 3!) were excellent.

It's really good value for money even though some of the attra were closed due to covid.

We felt extremely covid safe here. They've thought of everything and clearly spent a lot of money on things such as new hand wash stations and signage. There's a one way system in place and staff on hand in the busier areas. The cafe has been converted to a takeaway, but the food was great.

There are three clearly signed walks in the woods. We took the short green one and got the pram through fine. We changed the baby in the pram so didn't pay attention to baby change places. There were low sinks and antibac stations for children or wheelchair users. I also noticed that the cafe disinfected high chairs between uses.

Food choice was good, especially considering everything going on. Hot food, pasta, paninis or sandwiches at the cafe. Cold food on the other places. £5 for childrens nuggets meal. The chips were really yummy!

We will be going back and I think we'll get a season ticket.

We are regular visitors to this wonderful centre. It adds to the pleasure to know that your visits help support the folk who work there. The children love the barn, the staff are very helpful, the chickens are silly, butterflies amazing and all the play areas and animals are fun.

I bought my grandson a two hour falconery experience with Colin for a birthday present. It was the best experience ever. Colin is really knowledgeable, kind and informative. They set up the animals for the demonstration in which my grandson played an active part - and was proud to do so. They then spent an hour on a trip into woods where they saw how the birds hunt, return and generally behave in a natural habitat. So much incidental learning under the guise of a treat. Not just about the birds but also the responsibility for proper care!

He hasn’t stopped talking about the birds - especially the owl called Horace - misnamed horrible Horace because he sometimes does not cooperate which is fine. He’s not at all horrible really!

His sister is now thinking she would love the same.

Thank you Colin. We had a great time.

I bought my grandson the Bird of Prey two hour experience and it was worth every penny. Colin, is a passionate and skilled falconer who explained in great detail everything my Grandson needed to know about falconry and how to look after, and fly, the birds; he didn't stop talking about what he'd learnt when he got home. Sadly we didn't have time to explore the rest of the park but have been before and loved it. I was very happy to find all covid secure mitigations still in place despite legal regulations having been lifted. It made me feel safe despite the rising cases locally. I thoroughly recommend this as a very special treat if children, or adults, have an interest in these beautiful birds.

I was very fortunate to have a full day falconry experience. This had been delayed almost 2 years because of the pandemic but it was well worth the wait. Colin was an excellent host for the day, very informative and very skilful. The birds were extremely beautiful and the first swoop to my glove by a red-tailed hawk was quite literally breath-taking. I felt very involved all day and happily took part in the afternoon display, and although Horace the eagle owl was intimidating because of his sheer size his behaviour was exemplary. It was an interesting and exciting day and I highly recommend it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our family day out. We went as a group family with kids ranging from 4 weeks old to 12 years old. Staff were helpful and friendly, animals were fun to see and very well priced for tickets, can’t comment on the food as we took a packed lunch. Would definitely go again

We had an absolutely brilliant day at the Rare Breeds Centre. They are certainly limiting numbers as tickets had sold out online but the centre didn’t feel busy at all. There is plenty for small children to do and the burger we had for lunch was delicious. You definitely need wellies, especially around the excellent play park. The falconry show was superb and all the animals looked happy and well looked after.
