If you are in Portobelo, stop by and see the Black Christ. The church is unassuming and provides a nice, quite respite from searing heat. There is a large festival in late October, so be warned the roads and town will be crowed during that...More

Interesting town. Has a tremendous history. From Drake's adventures in the Caribbean to the mystery of the Black Christ.

Portobelo does not have a tourist friendly feel but get over it! Get out of the car and check out the church. The black Christ level of bizarre-ness is only exceeded by the one in the casket below the statue. If you have an interest...More

If you are Catholic or like old architecture is a must. Very unique and should be appreciated! Old fort is quite close and El Castillo restaurant is 3 minutes away bay car. You can do all 3 in 2-3 hours, well worth it.

Visited the church with the Black Christ. Very historic and beautiful. BUT, the town of Portobelo has trash everywhere and so many starving dogs that it will break your heart!

What can I say? An old icon in an old, teeny backwater town that time has pretty much forgotten. The clothes are gorgeous, and the church is pretty impressive for such a small town - large and open all the time. It is more memorable...More
