Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Magical! Couldn't recommend a more wonderful, friendly, kind atmosphere. I came here around 3 weeks ago with my boyfriend from a recommendation, it was so beautiful! We came back for my boyfriend birthday. I spoke to the lady serving me at the till (who was very friendly) I mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday, which the chef overheard and he Brought his breakfast out with a candle in the sausage! We enjoyed our delicious breakfast while admiring the almost overwhelming wonderful view. I tried to leave a card tip but they only take cash. I will defiantly return with a cash tip. Couldn't recommed a better place! stop wasting your time and come here!

Visited today with my two grandsons, caught 30 carp during our 5 hour visit; brilliant fun! Can't think of better place to bring youngsters to in order to introduce them to fishing. No chance of them getting bored with this amount of action.
Can't come too often due to cost , how about concessions for us old age pensioners?
Very memorable day thank you.

Visited with two grandsons, started catching nice carp straight away and continued catching all day.
The boys thoroughly enjoyed it, couldn't stop talking about it all evening.

We travelled quite a bit to get there, but was well worth it. We are complete newbies to fishing, but the day was enjoyable with a delicious lunch at the on site restaurant.

Friendly staff showed us how it's all done.

We've visited a few sites this year both for junior Lake fishing and also for food.

On the fishing front, the cost of the gear to do some float fishing isn't bad, although I felt the float and line was to short so you couldn't really put your line out very far, all very near to the side.

When we've been both times we only caught 1 fish each in about 5-6 hours but at certain bits of the lake families were pulling fish out on after the other. So if you get a good spot your alright.

The food is good. Although one time I asked for a bacon roll but they had stopped breakfast so could only do a sausage. Weird. But OK. Guess they can't mix the menus but was a few minutes which had gone whilst waiting in the queue.

Also had a breakfast there which was reasonable. Quite overpriced but good quality and a lovely setting so would recommend.

Way back in March, my fishing buddy and I booked 2 trips to Hawkhurst. One in June, the other in September. 3 nights in June, 4 in Sept.
The trip in June was fine. Anglers toilets were dirty but toilets, full stop, are a luxury.
Food was good - I'd recommend the all day breakfast.
Swims are neat, although a little too close together.
2 weeks before the September trip my father had a bad fall, hospitalised (and still there at time of writing).
Bear in mind that the website states - All bookings are final; no refunds or moving of dates are allowed
So, if you book, say, 6 months in advanced, make sure that you or a family member doesn't fall ill.
I paid £140, back in March, for a 4 night session in September
Don't expect a refund. Don't expect to be able to reschedule. Just kiss good bye to the money and the trip
I did ask my booking to me moved and was flatly told NO.
Very disappointing on what looks like a well run water (if you don't mind the sound of bivvy pegs being banged in with a pneumatic hammer and are able to overlook some anglers bait boating their rigs around islands where the likelihood of actually landing the fish is more remote than a refund).
Had I been able to move the date, the lake would have had:
a. A happy customer
b. Another booking from my fishing buddy, who would have come down on the rebooked dates as a paying angler.
Obviously this wont happen due to the short-sighted policy on the lake and the unimaginative fisheries manager who is unable / unwilling to exercise any form of discretion, in terms of the booking.

The purpose of our passing visit was only to get a cup of tea! We were immediately impressed and stayed on for lunch

Surprisingly the cafe/restaurant offered a small but delicious menu of home-cooked food. Best burger I have tasted since Florida! I made a point of telling the chef.

We ate overlooking a lake and were delighted to watch the antics of the ducks and other wildfowl, Not only that but we saw an array of bird life including martins and swallows.

Hi there, apologies for the delay in response. I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit to the cafe. They are run separately to the fishery so please feel free to move your review to the 'Waterside Cafe' page so they can see your comments.
