Excellent afternoon out, very interesting displays and informative guides. Enjoyed the tea and fruit cake in the mess hut too. Well worth the £5 entrance fee

Arrived with a friend, didn’t know what to expect? We are both RAF veterans and are interested in aviation and military history. Completely blown away by the quantity and quality of the many exhibits all set in original buildings. Friendly staff (all volunteers) and amazingly helpful, proper mug of tea in the cafe too! Only thing to be cautious about, don’t expect to whizz around it all in 45 minutes and see everything! This place deserves 2 or 3 hours.

I will be recommending it the friends.

Just WOW you have to visit this place is wonderful. Everybody is so welcoming and full of information if you ask... nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely cuppa and scone while listening to war time music, we had a treat to some classic cars and steam engines too. BRILLIANT will definately go again

Unfortunately this place was closed we were very dissapointed. Not quite sure if or when it is open. The welcome board is very confusing. Please let me know how it was, if you gain entry.

A must visit when you are in the area. Run by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team of volunteers, there is something of interest for young and old alike.
Also a lovely little cafe for tea and cake.

A very comprehensive and thoroughly enjoyable museum (with cafe). The brochure/flyer does not do the camp justice. The multiple exhibits are great and really informative. We spent nearly 3 hours there and could have spent longer. The volunteers are all very helpful and friendly. A bargain at £5 and well worth the visit…

We were travelling in area and went into Thorpe camp in impulse, I had seen it advertised but had not registered where it was, assumed it would be half an hour for quick museum visit and toilet stop with the kids as the site did not look that big. How wrong you can be. We ended up staying two hours and we didnt see everything. From the moment we arrived the volunteers made the kids feel like VIPs, the kids had a questionaire to fill in to get a certificate which helped shape the visit. The site has a much bigger collection of artifacts than you might imagine and there is plenty to see, the site is obviously heavily into the World war II history, but also has good displays for World war I and more recent conflicts like the Falklands . The kids especially got to try on period headgear like ARP helmets and the like, actively encouraged by the volunteers. They got to sit in the Cockpit of the Tornado simulator and they went inside the Anderson shelter. They sat in the Jeeps that were on show and got a chance to try on British and American headgear of various types to look the part. Later we were given a ride in one of the jeeps around the car park. This was all actively encouraged by the volunteers, I cant express how much the volunteers active engagement with the children made the whole experience more vivid for the kids, who were so engaged by the whole experience it was a highlight of our holiday. At £5.00 per adult to get in (kids go free) it is a bargain. There is a small cafe on site run by volunteers, who were again excellent, the cafe has only a limited range of refreshments, but the cakes were homemade and not unreasonably priced. There is a very small gift shop, which we didnt make use of .

Cant fault this museum, hopefully one day we will return and I hope it goes from strength to strength because it deserves to. Thankyou to all those volunteers who made this trip so special.

What a gem of a museum. Great history of the region, the Dam Busters, along with other aspects of WW2 and aviation during WW1. Exhibits are really well thought out and informative. Some will say a couple of hours is enough but do allocate more time and read about the exhibits and the history of the base. We spent a fair bit of time talking to the museum personnel who were very knowledgeable. You can tell it is run by people who are passionate about the museum. Loved it. Only a couple of miles from Woodhall Spa which is also a must visit.
