We got to Khara Khoto in late afternoon, after about half an hour drive from Ejina Qi. Although they almost completed a nice entrance to the area, you still have some drive until you get close to the ruins... In the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the desert to which the city surrounded many centuries ago.... Not much left, a... More

Heicheng is the chinese name of Khara Khoto which means "Black city" ,and it lies at the base of Alashan Plateau . Once this was a very important city of the Tangut Empire ( Xia Dinasty ) .
