We had a fantastic day with Marco visiting 2 vineyards this Feb in the Valpollicella region. It was about a one and a half hour drive to our first vineyard, run by 3 brothers. The surroundings were lovely and a change from Venice. Lots of hills with vines as far as the eye could see. Being February they were all... More

We were picked up in the morning in Venice at the carpark in front of the Olympus hotel the hour long drive was very pleasant through some beautiful countryside, our driver was very interesting and knowledgable and told us all we needed to know about prosecco making . The tour itself was very good, not very long but we got... More

I want to say that it was not the first wine tour in my life, maybe tenth, so I have something to compare. Thanks to our guide, Mario (info@venicedaytrips.com>), we spent 2 marvelous days in the Veneto region and visited Amarone in the Valpolicella and Euganean Hills wineries. We tried great wines, met interesting people, who dedicated their lives to... More

My husband & I enjoyed a memorable day with Rachel & Mario. We are cheese producers ourselves and wanted to visit a buffalo farm and some cheese producers while on holiday in Venice. The custom made tour was excellent, Mario had done his research and found a buffalo farm for us to visit and he and Rachel were excellent interpreters... More

My wife booked this several months before our arrival in Venice and I'm so grateful that she did. We spent a total of seven days in Venice, and the day we took this tour was one of the best we've had in all of our travels. We arrived early at the NW end of the people mover near Tronchetto Parking.... More

Just got back to the United States from a month-long vacation in Europe. Myself and a few of my friends spent the last couple of days in Venice, and this experience - which we did on the very last day of our vacation - was BY FAR the most memorable. We opted for the Prosecco Wine Tour, which takes you... More

My 5 friends and I have been on a month-long trip touring Europe and today was our last day - we went outside of Venice and spent it on the Prosecco Wine Tour with Mario. It was the PERFECT way to end our trip. Mario was great -- friendly, knowledgeable, punctual -- and the wine was great too! Mario met... More

Apologies for the delay in my post but I had to make sure I wrote something. This is the 1st time I'm writing a review and I'm making the effort to do so because of just how amazing the trip was. My fiancée and I flew out to Venice for a few days and had organised the tour through emails... More

My mother and I did the processco tasting with Mario while we were in Venice and we had such a lovely time. Mario is so knowledgeable about the region, telling us about how the grapes are grown and the process of processco making while in two beautiful small wineries in the hills of the Venetto. In both wineries, the wine... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
