Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Nakambale Museum is situated in the former Finnish Missionary station Olukonda close to the town Ondangwa in the north of Namibia. The Museum was named after the Finnish missionary Martti Rautanen, whose nick name was „Nakambale“ . Rautanen became missionary in 1880 shortly after the missionary station was founded. He initiated the building of a church and a missionary house. Both buildings still exist.

We stopped here to check out the first Finnish missionary station in Namibia. It’s well kept and there are lots of interesting photos with good explanations. Staff are super friendly (thanks Matta) and there’s a nice gift shop where you can support local crafts people. If you are in the area, go take a look. The original church is still there and it’s a pretty area.

Visited the museum the place was closed and no one on site or a note on operating hours or reason behind it being closed thought after it bieng handed over to the Oniipa town council that would improve the viability of the place and increase on marketing but all to no avail kindly have a caretaker at least at all times as its not good for our tourism to have such historically significat museums poorely managed

The Owambo Region is one of the few areas in the country with no German influence. The only European influence came about at the arrival of Finnish missionaries in the 1870s. Learn more about the history and the role they played in locals’ lives. Martin Rautanen was a loved and respected man under the Owambo people. He was the first to translate the Bible into their language. When visiting the museum you can also go to the old missionary church with the adjacent graveyard.
