About
Bannockburn House has survived largely unchanged since the 17th century apart from a Victorian extension. After over 50 years of dormancy the house and grounds were bought by the local community in December 2017. The house is being repaired and conserved for future generations to enjoy. Our volunteers run a programme of tours, open days and events. Keep an eye out for public tours and other events available for booking.

    Wonderful, would highly recommend
Fantastic place to visit! The volunteers are very knowledgable about the history of the house and the local history. The tour of the washroom was the highlight for me, so great to see so many original features. Added bonus that you got tea and a cake at the end in the original drawing room!

    Worth a visit!
This was a great day out, and we enjoyed learning all about the history of Bannockburn House. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the tea with cake at the end was very welcome! It's an old house, which is a work in progress, so it was good to support something of such historical value to the area.

    Very well worth a visit
I immensely enjoyed the tour of this house. The guides were so informative, knowledgeable and entertaining. They really managed to convey a sense of history as regards the building and its owners and also the way of life of ordinary people through the centuries, especially those involved in "downstairs" work in the laundry and kitchen. The grounds are very well-kept. An extra treat was the free tea/coffee and biscuits and cake at the end of the tour.

What a wonderful place to see
What a place ! You need to book a wee visit here is you are ever in the area. Even if you are not, check the website for the events and include it in a visit. It’s so totally worth it. The atmosphere on the house is amazing and the surroundings are beautiful.
Thank you very much for your lovely review. We hope to see you again soon. Linz M

Help these people with practical help activity and donations please.
A place with a confused character I thought. Not this nor that in the old ,visit a house experience. Smashing guides with much information and well delivered. I just think, and know, that there are many Stirlingshire millionaires that should be donating funds to the Trust that have saved the house and are developing it as a trove of what was once an interesting part of the local and national history.
Thank you very much for your kind words. It sounds like you enjoyed your visit.

Went to visit as part of Stirling open week. Did the tour which took about an hour and a half. The tour guide was excellent and very informative. The local community purchased the house last year and are in the process of bringing it back to its former glory. The progress already made is amazing and it is well worth a visit.

Hi Elaine Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your visit to Bannockburn House as part of the Doors Open Days event for 2018. This is the second year we've been part of DOD and we've loved welcoming people to the house and showing them what's been achieved so far. It's wonderful to know that our volunteer tour guides are getting such glowing reviews - they work so hard and are so passionate about the property.

There was an Open Day. Archers, stalls, ancient craft demo, bbq, sales tables. Plenty to see and do as well as superb tours of the house. Well rehearsed talks and descriptions of each room. So much still to do but great scope for future events, family or business functions etc.

Thank you Christine for your kind comments about your visit to Bannockburn House. Our volunteers love it when people appreciate their efforts - we know how much work goes in behind the scenes to get events and tours organised so it's great to hear how much visitors enjoy the results! Our next open weekend is 24 and 25 November when visitors will see the house decorated for the holiday season, meet some characters from the past, and enjoy a range of festive entertainment. Keep an eye on our website events page for details.

This was a really good paranormal fundraiser, I would have given it more if it wasn't for 2 things:
1. People being late for this held it up the night starting. This was not the teams fault, but I think in future it should start up on time so people who arrived on time aren't sitting around when they could be starting their paranormal investigations.
2. There are people who are there a lot (they even know the team well since they go so much) which is fine, but I think they need to be put in groups with each other and the people who are new to it put together as the regulars tend to take over the investigations and also distract with their doing their own thing in the background.

The team were friendly and encouraged everyone to give things a go, but were not pushy. Tea and biscuits were provided during the break (which is really good since it gets very cold in this place, though we were warned of this beforehand and so wore plenty of layers),

I would go back again but only if the groups were split as above suggestion.

Visited for a 'tricks and treats' halloween event for children.
The event was fantastic. Some real life family friendly ghostbusting (so fun) and a chance to explore this amazing house. Lots of activities for the children and the place was looking super spooooky.
Love to support this house when I can that's being lovingly restored for all to enjoy by a group of passionate and dedicated volunteers.
Left with a big smile on my face looking forward to my next visit!

The house is in a very poor state of repair but the army of volunteers are working hard to restore it; they have been working on it for 5 years after about many years of abandonment. Seeing what they are up against is in itself really interesting and we will follow their progress with interest.
The star guide for us was Catherine, who talked about clothing and the laundry and then about the kitchen.
And tea and home-made cakes was a lovely bonus!

My friend and I were disappointed in the wools on offer. Not really for the ordinary knitter but quite specialised.
The directions and parking were very easy along with the bus transfer but as it was very wet we didn't go round the gardens.

This amazing house is bursting with character, with historical connections from the Jacobite tie through to Victorian era. Latterly the demise of the house from the 1970's has proven a challenge to the house and the volunteers battling to restore, preserve this gem in central Scotland, the tour guides are very enthusiastic about the house and know a huge amount of the historic connections both locally and internationally, throughout the ages.
The splendid ceiling in the hall, in spite of the smoke damage from the fire in the 1970's is still amazing, just waiting from a wealthy benefactor to put a large donation into the trust to bring the house back to it's former glory.
We had the last tour of the season, there will be a Christmas fair/fayre on the 30th November until 1st December 2019 be sure not to miss it.
