Since the Stone Forest is listed as UNESCO World Heritage and a major tourist attraction in Yunnan many thousands of visitors flock in everyday. Most come with buses in groups, take part in a guided tour and stay only a short time. They come in late morning and leave before 3:00 p.m. The guides push their herds along a standard... More

Went in march. Though the rock formation is impressive, the crowd is a big turn off. Glad I was able to snap some photos without capturing any other overly eager tourists who made it seems like it might b their first time taking a photo. Sigh

Stone forest is impressive huge structure which is made of lime stone for million years. The park is very clean. In places one has to climb many stairs. But it is within comfort level. It is exciting to see the stone forest from the top.

Arranged a private car from Grand Park Hotel for the day (900rmb) to take us to Stone Forest and Juixang Caves (and other places if we wanted to) The driver helped us buy entrance tickets for both and arranged where to meet after each tour.. Much cheaper and more flexible to do it this way than to join the tour... More

Stone forest was stunning! Even though we got lost in the forest we enjoyed a lot. It's too far by the way, I recommend you to take train from kunming to shilin country. (18 Kuai, 22minutes) After you reach shilin country, you can easily get a bus to reach the forest. (10 Kuai, around one hour)

I can't say it doesn't worth it, but I honestly thought was something more special. At least from pictures you see looks like that. I had the English guide but I feel like he brings you on the classic spots, try to find something different will make the visit more special.

Five years ago, I visited this "Stone Forest". They've added a Museum and cement road since then. They also make it so you're almost forced to pay an additional 30 rmb to take an electric cart 2 or 3 kilometers to the entrance. The normal admission price is 175 rmb. Doing it in a group will be MUCH cheaper but... More

Started early from the hotel in Kunming, as the Stone Forest was nearly two hours away. Once we arrived, we got on a very large "golf cart" or trolley, which took us to the main part of the park. There were a lot of visitors on this day - noisy and pushy (especially when the photographers being paid for their... More

An amazing walk through a forest of tall limestone rock structures. Plan to spend at least two hours here but the views of the rock formations and the surrounding countryside are worth the drive or bus trip out there.

We had a private tour and got to the Stone forest part mid afternoon, which actually worked out well as much of the crowds were leaving. The place is immense and our guide took us mostly off the beaten track into little crevices, small paths and caves, up and down steps, and it was quite tedious. We only saw large... More
