About
Situated on over 350 hectares in Phuoc Tan Village, Bien Hoa City Dong Nai Province, Vietnam, which is about 36 kilometers away from Ho Chi Minh City, towards the East, the Long Thanh Golf Club has been constructed on a plateau, offering superb panoramic views in every direction. The Club is a combination of a 36-hole Golf Course, Driving Range, Central Clubhouse, Pro-shop, Restaurant, Conference Rooms, Lockers and luxurious Villas. Long Thanh Golf Course was designed by the world renowned golf course architects’ firm - Golf Plan – headed by Mr. Ron Fream, with more than 35 - year experience in designing, building and maintaining golf course throughout the world. The course is composed of 36 holes, 18 holes out of which are more challenging for professional golfers and the remaining are for out new, ambitious golfers. The 18-hole Hill Course, which is more challenged, is constructed on a plateau. Players will get memorable experiences on each Hole, which has specific designation. The 18-hole Lake Course is surrounded by the branches of Dong Nai River. The well-placed bunkers give Golfers a chance to challenge themselves with their skills. The grass for the Course is species of Paspalum, which is dedicated to golf courses, helps golfers make accurate shots. It features rolling fairways and subtly undulating greens, winding through a palm plantation and artificial lakes with some waterfalls and other beautiful features. Coupled with the cool atmosphere and spectacular panorama, there can be only few comparable places in all Asia in which to play golf with such an environment.

One of the best golf courses in HCMC (if not the best). Excellent layout with multiple variations and challenges. Be sure to ask for English speaking caddies I’ve you arrive at the course otherwise your course understanding will be challenging.
The restaurant was a major disappointment with lackluster food quality devoid with any sense of service. Considering how other courses in HCMC excelled in F&B offering, Long Thanh has a long way to go. Pity.

It’s a good 1,5 hours drive from center of Saigon but absolutely worth it. We played this course in 36 Centigrade and we walked. There’s a great variation in the holes greens are fine but a little on the slow side. Caddies are great we had #320 and #588 both very nice and know the course and the greens. We got around in about 4,5 hours and didn’t have to wait a whole lot.

There are seven or eight golf clubs in the Saigon area now, and being an expat here I have played six of them multiple times. While none of them really qualify as "world class", Long Thanh is the most scenic of the bunch and one of the two I would recommend to tourists (along with Twin Doves).
There are two 18 hole courses on the property; hill and lake. Both are fairly challenging but not excessivly difficult "parkland" style tracks with some differences (as their names imply). Even though its a bit tough to walk in hot, humid weather, I enjoy the hill course a lot more.
PROs
Nice scenery: Long Thanh won't appear in anyones list of most beautiful courses in Southeast Asia, but its still quite pretty. Despite a few ill-advised landscaping choices (i.e. hedge bushes trimmed to look like a dragon), the property looks very lush, with enough trees to provide shade and give the holes a natural shape.
Interesting course layout: Multiple elevated tee shots, dog legs and forced carries make for some memorable holes on both courses. There is plenty of hole variety here, so its not a strightforward driver followed by short iron/wedge onto the green every time.
Both courses are in good (but not outstanding) condition. You will struggle to find a dead spot anywhere on the fairways and the surface is just soft enough to allow the ball to "sit up" a bit. The greens are fairly average by Southeast Asian standards (i.e. not very fast), but I can't really complain about the tee boxes or the bunkers.
Caddies are hit and miss in terms of English skills/course knowledge, but they are generally friendly and try to help. Tip of around 250,000 VND is expected.
This is one of the few places in Vietnam with a hitting range that allows you to hit off grass rather than mats.
Clubhouse restaurant is solid in terms of variety/quality
Transportation is manageable. With the opening of a new highway, the drive to Long Thanh is relatively smooth and reliable in terms of time (1 hour from central Saigon).
Good value on the weekdays ($56 for green fee + caddie fee)
CONS
The clubhouse facility is underwhelming. Besides being a bit small for a 36 hole development, the locker room and restaraunt look tired and old fashioned.
Like many other courses in the area, Long Thanh suffers from mismanagement and overbooking, which can lead to log jams on the course, especially on the weekends. There don't seem to be any course marshals around to hasten the pace play, and its really annoying to see a group of four ahead of you playing from the blue tees even though none of them could consistently play under 100 or drive the ball more than 200 yards.
Another common failing among courses around here, Long Thanh is a bang for the buck fail on weekends ($140), especially when you consider that will probably take you 5 hours to finish a round.

We played on Tuesday 7th Nov, 730am tee off in a group of 3. It 5.45hrs to complete 18 holes, 3 hrs for the front 9. This was NOT enjoyable for us. They overbooked the course and we did not see one Marshall out there controlling the pace of play. We won’t be returning….

This was the best course we played in during our Vietnam golf trip. The layout was excellent but unfortunately they do not have a good greenskeeper. Greens were in real bad shape. The fairways and bunkers were in decent shape.
Our group was composed of mostly above average players and we played the white tees. There were groups ahead of us who obviously could not break 100 but were playing from the blue tees. No marshalling at all. Clubhouse facilities were better than average. Caddies were extremely friendly but lacking in English communication skills.

I've been searching for a golf course to play around Ho Chi Minh and got an early morning booking at Long Thanh Hill Course.
Arrived timely and get your ticket that add up all your cost for the day, keep it handy as you would need this for food, beverages, caddies and locker room. Confirmed my tee-time and been told that payment is after the game.
Got to the tee well before time and gave my name to the starter. My partners never arrived and the starter refused to add me to an open spot in any of the groups teeing off. Really not sure why but should've gone to the reception earlier to point this out.
So being up from early and expectant to play an hour later no tee time, an hour drive and they will only give me a tee time 4 hours later. After complaints and speaking to the manager they paired me together with a group on the Lake Course 30 minutes later, nice course, challenging with the amount of water all around the course. The fairways you can see carries traffic but the greens are good and steady pace. Be sure that you have enough water with you, the water / refreshment stations are only on a couple of holes and no water on the course. Caddies are good and professional with distance before you take your club. I thoroughly enjoyed the course on both 9's and will play there again but this time around with a booked 4 ball at least.

Do not be disappointed with the clubhouse design and looks, the golf course is well maintained and consists of 36 holes (lake and hill course). The course suits the long hitters. The journey from HCM district 1 takes about 1hr on the new highway. Well worth the traveling time. I would highly recommend playing this course when in HCM. The caddies are well trained and speak simple English and carry a range distance finder to give exact distance.

A tremendous course which is challenging and lots of fun. The caddies are good value and the golf experience was great. The facilities are clean and we hired almost everything.
The only downside was that the course is a little under an hour from District 1 where we stayed so it was a bit of a trek there and back. Otherwise a really fun course.

Can we rent golf clubs in Long Thanh? How much is the rental in US dollars?
Written 7 May 2024
Can anyone share how much VND did a round of golf cost? How much did it cost for caddies, club rentals, balls, etc?
Thanks!
Written 13 January 2015
It depends whether you're olaying during the week or weekend. Go to their website where prices are listed. I'd guess all mentioned fees (clubs, green fees, caddy, cart) would run around 2.2 million vnd during the week and 3.5 on the weekend.
But it also depends on time of year so look for their website or contact them by email.
