Overview
More
Hardangervidda is the largest mountain plateau in Europe. This is where you will find Norway's largest national park. The scenery is varied with steep mountainsides and spectacular views. The countryside there is diverse, ranging from flat plains on the eastern side to steep mountains and fjords in the west. It is home to Europe's lagerst herd of wild reindeer and several other artctic plants and animals. There are many opportunities for fishing, and mountain trout from Hardangercidda are famous for their excellent quality.

It was extremely foggy and rainy when I was there, but I know from past trips the vast surroundings are spectacular. Even being shrouded in thick fog it was spectacular to drive. One of the most famous parts of Norway.

Nice people, beautiful place, incredible nature! The people of Hardangervidda National Park center served us a delicious meal... An excellent explanation of the park and good advice for a 3 hours walk.

This is for hiking and camping enthusiasts. The scenery is spectacular: mountain plateau above the tree line criss crossed with lakes and running water. A glacier is easily visible. Access is not easy since the roads are little more than mountain tracks. The Tourist Association...More

We drove through with road 7, and the view was spectacular. Especially at Park Skaupsjøen just at the tail of Hardangervidda. There we camped out for the night, it was cold but the view was worth it. We visited in summer but snow was still...More

It was quite windy with heavy showers on the day I visited this region. I didn't really participate in a proper trek here, but did do a short walk. The terrain is quite bleak but still stunning. I can imagine it would be quite hard...More

We travelled this area and were impressed by the harsh climate and vastness of the area. Fridtjof Nansen prepared for his polar expedition in the area and I can understand why. i can only imagine how bitterly cold it must be in the depths of...More

The Queen's Trail is along the outskirts of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, between Kinsarvik and Lofthus. This was a very demanding hike especially since it was constantly raining which also made it dangerous. We only got to see the fjords below a few times because...More

We hiked through Hardangervidda last August and there were still snow fields, some of them quite large. So I guess snow in that area doesn't melt completely never.
