In this air-conditioned museum (worth bearing in mind as it can be really hot here in the summer !!!), you discover many aspects of life in the area, mostly from the 18th century to the present day. On the ground floor, you learn about how Duchess Caroline lived in Bouxwiller's Castle in the 18th century. On the 1st floor, you can admire displays showing how people lived in the 18th and 19th century, whether from the lower classes or from the upper classes. You discover that this area was a haven of tolerance where Catholics, Jews and Protestants lived side by side i harmony. On the top floor, you learn about the geology of the area and the local industries that used the unusual natural resources to thrive and make a name for themselves.

Very well built up exhibition. Gives a lot of information in an informal and pleasant way. Agreable. Outside is an ancient building, inside is a modern concept

Small gem of a museum with lovely installations. We especially enjoyed the exhibits which contrasted the household interior objects from the peasant class versus the bourgeoisie.
