Very safe, children were surfing, I waded, but lots going on, lovely soft sand, very clean. Lifeguards on the beach. A walk up a hill opposite gives you views over. Nice park opposite and of course the Mount. Shopping street very pretty.

Not very nice. Ugly urban beach. I really don't understand why it's on the top beach list. Couldn't wait to get out of there. I'm a New Zealander. Sorry if I offend any of my friends from the area.

My feet got sandy and slightly wet, they really should put signs up about this. People were enjoying themselves as well.

You will need a wetsuit very chilly, nice walk out on the point, plenty of parking, toilets, wheelchair assessable and restaurants close by. You can sit on the grass if you don’t want sand on your toes or venture down to the chilly water.

Grew up on this beach so a bit biased as a family since the 70's this was our holiday go to place. For a family it's so lovely go early and enjoy the soft white sand and the brilliant surf. A surf club is right...More

Loved this walk as an alternative to the climb to the summit. Easy to find parking and a great hour stroll. Great scenery up the hill and potato sea.

I saw it in all weather and it's still beautiful - vast, and little islands on the horizon and a spit to explore. Stunning.

just like most of NZ Mount Maunganui main beach is stunning. It is very long and you can walk the whole way along until you reach the base of Mount Maunganui. so walk/hike to the top is hard work especially in flip flops (not a...More

They talk about this being the beast beach in New Zealand. It is so close to the centre of Mt Maunganui. Beautiful sandy beach, maybe a little rough for those with little ones.

So many of the beaches in New Zealand lack appeal because of their black sand but this beach has beautiful white sand and fabulous scenery with the Mount looming up at the Northern end. We went for a walk along the beach stopping to watch...More

Beautiful white sands, clear water with gentle waves, direct view of Mt Mauganui. And afterwards a short walk to the town centre for excellent coffee and shopping, or for the more energetic a hike to the summit of Mt Maunganui

Depends on the accomodation you are booking as the Mount has several types... Beach houses/ motels/ bed and breakfast... You would have to check with the establishment. If your flight lands in auckland you would take 3 hours... More
