A choice of great walking tracks around the mount, well maintained. You can choose the cruisey base track which accommodates prams and children. Challenging summit track affords stunning views and some entertainment from the many paragliders who sail down to MM beach. Allow 1 -...More

Too steep on stairs for me. Coming down would be punishing on my knees. Walking around the base is fine in the daytime. Great sea views and fesh air. Good way to start the day

Having decided to do the Tongariro Crossing in March we did the Mount Maunganui summit track as a fitness test. It was well worth it! Trick for first timers - take the 4wd access track from Pilot Bay as the climb is not as daunting...More

They could have mentioned this place requires a lot of walking and that it is at the top of a hill. Tired

Last day in Tauranga and I still had a climb to do. But it had started to gently rain. Not put off and raincoat in a small backpack off I went. It was still very pleasant. Still had the views. And lots of other people...More

Although this hike is not easy for beginning older hikers or out of shape youngsters, it is well worth the trek if you would take your time. There are two ways to get to the top (east or west) and depending on your preference and...More

Great way to start the day, not too difficult either. We had heard great reviews from other tourists and the locals rate it!

Whether walking the summit track or around the base, this is a worthwhile experience. The base walk is an easy stroll - with the beautiful ocean to gaze at. The summit walk is not too difficult. Plenty of places to rest if you like and...More

They are 3 tracks to the top. The Waikorire track is the steepest path, with well-formed staircases winding up the eastern side of this extinct volcano. You need a good level of fitness, smokers I wouldn't suggest this route. The Oruahine track takes you around...More

No matter whether it's the stair route or the track - it's a challenge but so worth it. About 30 min around the mount and 30-40 up it.

We are in our 60’s and find it takes us about 3/4 hour or so. There are some undulations. Plenty of benches to stop along the way. Is very scenic. However, due to a slippage there is now a diversion - up/down some deep... More

You could go up and down in an hour and a half perhaps? Maybe quicker if not too hot and you are fit.

The one to the left is shorter but harder with a lot of stairs, the path to the right is a lot longer with not as many stairs but slopes. It just depends how you find walks :)
