What an amazing lake. I have visited three times and always found different views. Try to visit on cloudy days to get the ultimate.
Take a round trip of the lake if you have time.
Book the jeep and ask the driver for minimum of two hours stay. If wheather is harsh then one hour is enough.

I visited this valley from 14 to 26 June 2013. It was my 3rd visit but after many years gap.
One can not forget the memories. It was peak season and extremely crowded due to short period 1 month only and then Ramazan was beginning. I faced series problem in finding place to live. No room in any hotel was available. Fortunately, a local took me to his home, it was not of much comfort but full of peace touching the the river Kunhar.
Excellent Excellent and Excellent. From shogran to Makrra we two friends hiked together, spend a full day starting early in the morning until Sun set. It took 9 hours continuous walking and breath taking views welcome us everywhere which we could easily miss if we took it by jeep car. We met several groups i specially remember cadets from Hasan Abdal and a big big group of young school boys from Quetta. I found the second group in bad condition, tired, hungry and almost near to drop the hiking. They were short of water and food. We gave everything to them what we had but they were so many.
We took another hike started from Naran - Saif ul Malook - Ansu Lake. We unfortunately dropped this hiking after 8 hrs as we took wrong river bankside and after many hours try, we failed to cross it and took the right track. Time passed so fast and in the evening weather begin to disturbed. Rain or healing were about to come. It made me so ill and at one time, at the height of 12,000 feet i faced serious problem in breathing and pain finally i fall down on a glacier. My friend managed to climb down on horses which were fortunately sent by Allah I think.
The same night my friend decided to end this trip because I was near to die if horses were not available. I was not accepting his arguments because the same night Doctors declared me fit for continuing the trip but not my friend. We had some clash on this but finally reach to the decision on dismiss the tour and come next time.
I would personally recommend everybody to go there.
One advise Sunblock is essential as warm clothes for this visit.
I would like to say good words for my driver and his polite and positive behavior.

Situated at the height of 10,578 feet (3,224 meters) above sea level, Saiful Muluk is the most beautiful lake in Kaghan Valley. Offering excellent view of the Peak of Malika Parbat Mountain this lake is a water source for River Kunhar, the river that is travelling along with us from the Mansehra district.
We visited the Saiful Muluk lake on 16 September 2015, this is the part of our trip starting from Karachi and going to Khunjerab. On the 2nd day of our trip, we were in Naran and after having such a delicious breakfast of parathas, omelets and tea we ride in the jeep and started our journey toward Lake Saiful Muluk, on the main highway. At the end of the town, there is a road going on the right side surrounded by pine trees and that road leads to the lake Saiful Muluk. The road started climbing up on the mountain with the beautiful scenic views in front.
Because of frequent rains and running water from the mountains, the road to Saiful Muluk get destroyed every year but now the government is constructing a concrete road till Saiful Muluk so that it can last longer. As we started travelling on the road, the road is concrete but after crossing halfway, the rough road started (The second half is under construction). It was a bumpy and rough ride but it is part of the adventure. On one side of the road is High Mountain range and the other side is the deep valley below with the flowing river. We stopped at different locations to capture the scenic beauty of the area in our camera.
After travelling nearly 8 KM up on the mountain and for nearly one and half hours, our jeep stopped at a place where there are hotels and some small tuck shops. And below the hill, we can see the beautiful lake. Our driver told us that from here we have to trek down till the lake as jeeps are not allowed to go near the lake. It was a 10 minutes trek and we have reached the most popular lake of Pakistan, the Saiful Muluk.
Just a little up the lake there is a grassy land so we decided to spread the sheet that we have brought with us on the grass and sit there. The children started running and playing with the ball and we were enjoying the breathtaking view of the lake and the mountains and discussing the beauty of this place. The pleasant smell and the pollution free environment making us feel that we are in some other world. The weather is sort of undefinable as the wind is cold and where there are clouds and shade if feels very cold but at the area where the sun is shining it feels hot. The place where we were sitting it was shaded in the beginning but after an hour the sun started shining on us and the weather was getting hot, so after having some snacks and tea we decided to move and site at the side of the lake. As we move to the lake the children immediately remove their shoes and jump into the water. The water was cold but we all were enjoying it very much. The water is too clear and reflection of nearby mountain seen in the lake is amazing, it feels like a huge mirror lying on the ground.

45 mins jeep ride to Saif ul Muluk will be one of your breath taking experience, surely you will be cursing yourself to go to such place while going though those rocky mountains BUT once you reach there, you find Haven. It was Beautiful, cold and windy. We had horse ride to reach to the lake. The boat ride was cherry on the cake.
The hot sip of tea on such beautiful scenic place justified the scary drive.

Depicting the name, and really is a fairy tale like view. an amazing sight experience, . The beautiful water surrounded by huge mountains, covered by white glaciers of snow. interesting tale to hear with a princess and a giant, and how the hero, Saif ul Muluk saved the princess. There are mushrooms of hotels, should not spoil the natural beauty there, dont forget to carry warm clothes or rain gear there. Best time would be the dawn or at sunset.

It would have been a beautiful place if it would have been less commercial. Alot of shops around the lake makes it look so messed up. The jeep track to the lake is fun and the lake is a natural beauty. You get to see Malka Parbat peak too and the glaciers

If you are in Naran then Saif Ul Malook is a must see. From Naran the jeep charges 3k to 5k depending on season for a round trip and it is worth the price you pay. It takes an hour to reach the lake where services are relatively good. Do tak le warm shawls, caps and jackets as the wind and rain can start anytime. You have got to try the stroyteller atleast once.

Wonderful scenic views.we went from Naran on foot to Saif ul muluk,a journey of life.however these days you can take Off roaders or hire locals SUV's.

While many people have a different view of what Pakistan is or what Pakistan is projected as, very few know the actual wild beauty of the north that lies in Pakistan. Nestled in the mountains are some of Pakistan's finest jewels which so many of us just never get to appreciate. Northern Pakistan is by far one of the most wonderful places that you can visit. Despite what you may hear about northern Pakistan and the country in general, the truth is far from the perceptions.
While images can only give you a slight inkling into what all you can see, it is sufficient to say that images alone cannot give you the feeling of wonder that the real thing does. From snow capped mountain ranges, to wide valleys, from rapids to calm lakes, from muddy waters to the glacier melts, the wonderful world that awaits the traveler keep changing from turn to turn.
Timings are restricted due to the seasonal condition and snowfall in particular, but with the road network now in excellent condition, areas that were once only jeep or 4WD territory are now open to the general public. The downside of this is that during the tourist season, the place is jam packed, but during the off season months, one can and must visit the serenity and tranquility that these mountains have to offer.
The people are very hospitable and the conditions in most hotels are basic. However there are now several new establishments cropping up to cater to the demand of foreigners and like minded people. Rooms during the off season can range from as little as Rs. 500 per night to Rs.5,000 per night. During the peak season the same room rates can multiply by a factor of 10 in cost.
While the north is very conservative, as long as some basics are followed such as respect for the area that you are in and modesty in dressing etc, the experience is one that no other country can offer.
Naran is certainly the choice for a relaxed and yet adventurous getaway. If you have a 4WD vehicle you will be able to explore the beaten track where only locals dare. If you are just in the mood for a holiday with cool winds and a view like no other, then that too is there.

November is very cold in north Pakistan. but idea for south Pakistan. you can visit 90% of pakistan in this month. better start with Karachi, thata, Hala, Hyderabad, Ranikot, Larkana, Multan, Lahore, Pishawar.

Is it safe to travel to in november time and with children age 4 years old?
Also i wanted to ask that i want to take a picture of the milkyway and stars so is it safe to go out at 1am/2am? And is there any chance you can have a local guide eith you at that time?

Hi Usman,
If you are interested in seeing saiful mulook in the month of November then you would need to stay in Naran. Problems you might face are unavailability of hotels due to off season, bad weather due to rainfall and snow as a result of which authorities closed the road leading to Naran. So you need to check one of these forums again regarding accessibility to Naran during your planned dates. Naran is safe it's just the absence of street lights in some spots make it look scary but that's where you are going to see milkyway. When I went in August last year, it was not allowed to stay near the lake after sunset. There are several tourists there and locals respect the tourists so you'll feel safe. You don't need a guide in Naran, just need a good driver who could help you with whatever you need. Hope it helps, I think it's all up to you that how much are you willing to take the risk.
