Beautiful
Oct 2020 • Family
Castle is beautiful with good service. Recommend to wait until some medieval days and other events. The road is good but wear proper shoes - you go to the top of hill, and you are awarded by beautiful views. In the castle is also place where to get something to drink.

Empty ruins
Aug 2019 • Couples
Once we walked up the steep hill (30 min) and paid €3 each for the entrance fee we were disappointed with the lack of information available both slovak or English to give us an understanding of even what we are looking at. The view is the only saving grace.

Elizabeth Bathory was real and this was her castle
Jul 2018 • Friends
There's a brilliant typically hammy Hammer horror film 'Countess Dracula' based on stories about the infamous Countess Elizabeth Bathory who was one of the occupants of this ruined castle, perched high on a hill outside the village of Cachtice. Whether she really did bathe in the blood of captured young virgins in an attempt to rejuvenate herself is like most historical legends open to question, but we had to visit. In common with many Slovakian tourist sites the expected infrastructure is lacking and you'll need to yomp 2-3km up from the nearest carpark. Make sure you give yourself time as the ruin has defined opening hours. It is quite atmospheric and affords mahnificent views over the surrounding countryside but don't expect much help in English as there is an only partially informative sheet and one information panel once inside. An enterprising local couple have set up a little refreshment stall near the castle gate - good on them as you'll need a cold drink after the long yomp up!

Castle, murder house, ruins...
Jul 2018 • Couples
Giving 3 stars because of it's supposed gory history, but looks wise has seen better days and lives off its tales and secrets. We combined Cachtice and Beckov castles into a half day trip, and ideally they are only 30 minutes drive apart. Once in Cachtice vicinity, there are signs that take you to the car park. 1 eur parking fee and then its a 20 minute trek up to the castle with 15 minutes coming down.
The castle's state is a crumbling one, but not a lots of visitors here so easy to cast back on its trials and tribulations. The views are nice of Visnove and surrounding greenery. Not sure how valid the 600 females being executed\blood baths stories were, but its definitely the key selling point as the castle from exterior looks not inviting. 40 minutes maximum is all thats needed here, during which we found Beckov as the much better visit out of the 2...

Taking the Train to the Infamous Castle
Jul 2018 • Family
For any fan of Gothic Horror, Cachtice Castle is a must see place to experience, but its often not clear from the online postings on how to get there by public transport. We took the train from Nové Mesto nad Váhom to the little village of Visnove at the base of the hill. Visnove is actually closer to the castle than Cachtice and getting dropped off in this sleepy village and being greeted by only wandering sheep helped set the mood for the visit. The trail up to the castle is behind a house in the center of the village and is not clearly marked (look at Google maps). However, climbing up the steep, unpaved trail through the forest continued to add to the experience, especially considering we didn't see another soul the entire time. Once you get up to the top of the hill, take a left where the trails intersect and soon you will be overlooking the castle. After visiting the castle, we took the main path into Cachtice with all the tourists coming and going and caught a train back up to Nove Mesto and onto Trencin, where we were staying.

Interesting but not open!

After a hairy drive up to the castle, we found it was closed and boarded up. The views made up for it.

We had plottet this castle inn on our trip through europe this summer and it was absolutely worth it. You have to pay a small entrance fee to get in there and there is also a nice walk from the parking and up the hill too the castle so make sure you have something to drink if it is hot. The view is amazing and there is also good information about the castles story

Castle with cruel history
Aug 2017 • Family
To my opinion, the castle is only tempting to so many tourists because of the cruel history. Specifically, the lady of Čachtice is known as the biggest serial killer of all times. In her lifetime, she probably murdered up to 600 women. She was also said to take baths in the blood of maidens. You will find the stories and portraits of her all around the village. The castle itself is a well-kept ruin where you can buy a wine with the lady's name on it. The walk from parking lot takes about 20 minutes and is not very steep, but there are two more routes, more touristic.

We felt the energy of this place!
Jul 2017 • Couples
If you are into the story of Elizabeth Bathory, you will feel the energy inside of these ruins. Especially inside of the tunnel. It is difficult to describe it. It is amazing, despite the horrible things she did there. The views from the castle are to die for. Beautiful!

Amazing castle and view

Truly and amazing castle. Drive as far as you can to avoid walking from the town. Easy walking the rest of the way. A lot of history
