Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kalk Bay is one of South Africa's oldest towns. It represents a working (fishing) harbour. Full of locals it offers a range of treats for all the senses. It's colorful fisher folk who have lived there generation after generation make the venue particularly. Originally stranded fisher folk from the Philippine islands - now diluted with doses of "Boer and Brit" DNA this community is unique on earth.
We want to showcase a particular restaurant which overlooks the harbour. Situated on the left hand side of Boyes Drive just after the turn (there is abundant safe parking) is JJ's Curry house and takeaways.
There you will find delicious curry-style cuisine made by a real Durban Indian chef.
It's great food there and the place is unlicensed. Thus it makes for an inexpensive outing. The food is authentic and delicious. Try their samosas which are home made. Among the best and only R 6 each. It is one of a very few eateries that sells Bunny Chow! A unique SA curry delicacy and street food combo.
If you forget to bring booze there is a Bottle Shop within a short walk away.
Enjoy yourselves at this unique Authentic Indian Restaurant - set in the heart of a fishing village ...

I have been visiting Kalk Bay Harbour for many years. It's a working harbour - so they keep it real with seagulls and fish smells! The walk along the pier (in good weather only!) and the many eating options make this a great place to visit. You Cann also purchase lovely fresh fish straight off the boats!

Pleasant working harbour to take a stroll around. A couple of restaurants in the harbour itself and plenty on the main road around the corner.
A treat is seeing the sea lions both swimming in the harbour and lazing around waiting for fish scraps from the fishermen.

It’s interesting to walkthrough the colorful harbor and see the fishing trawlers and boats. The nets and crayfish cages are impressive.

The harbour is quite small, but always offers a diversity of experience no matter what time of year you visit. Go for the view, the boats, the people and of course, the fish.

Kalk Bay is a quaint little town with lots of fun shops and cafes. Take a stroll down to the harbor and see the fishermen and seals. Have a luxury dinner or a little brekkie. Great place to spend the day and relax

What time is the fishing boats coming in.Want to buy fish Thursday,Friday,Saturday
Written 15 February 2023
There is normally a few boats that leave at 5;00 amp or earlier in the morning and come back at aroud 8:00. So the earlier they leave the earlier they come back, it depends on them.
You just have to ask at the harbour what time does the next catch come in?

Good day, how does one go about arranging for someone's ashes to be scattered at the Bay? Please advise...
Thanks in advance
Written 21 August 2019
There is absolutely nothing to arrange, you mainly go there with the ashes and it can be scattered as you see fit. I actually saw people doing it, dressed up with t-shirts printed of the deceased face.
