Great place to explore the history around South Lake Tahoe. Beautiful setting for pictures at any time of the day!! We like to walk down the main enterence road accessed just past Camp Richardson.. and kick pine cones as we go. The sunsets are amazing here, and there are always events, shows, or other educational programs throughout summer and into... More

Wanting to get out of the house in mid-July we headed up to Tahoe before the crowds descended upon all areas available for parking, hiking, beaching, etc and of course we had to be sure it would be dog friendly. We arrived 930am-ish parking in the Kiva Beach area so we could have an easy flat walking hike but out... More

You can stroll around the site, looking at the wonderfully maintained buildings, visit the Baldwin Museum, experience the beautiful gardens and access the Lake. During the first weekend of August, you can experience the 1920s during the Great Gatsby Festival, with 1920s children's games, a "speak easy" and Pope House tours led by local "actors".

If you are interested in Tahoe history, this is a very user-friendly, family friendly thing to do. Walking along lakes's edge at Camp Richardson is beautiful, and plaques with info on the area involving Lucky Baldwin and daughter Anita (think Santa Anita racetrack) are fascinating.

Interesting, friendly US Forrest Service staff, beautiful and free! Really takes you back to the early days of Tahoe. It is near the beach, although heavily wooded, so even on warmer summer days, it can be cool in the trees. Worth a visit on the way around the lake, or to/from Emerald Bay.

This was the first time there, and we loved the history of the site. The lumber used was amazing. It was a really cold day for us SoCal folks.

The Tallac Historic Site is great for the traveler who appreciates the rustic elegance that was befitting the finest families of the 1920's. It is a wonderful journey into the serenity and enjoyment of life afforded the early winter or summer visitors to this gem of America.

My friends and I walked here from the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. Great walk & the site is so pretty. We brought books and sat in the gazebo and read. Unfortunately, the buildings were closed. I will have to go back for a tour when it's open. Great place to visit.

We visited the Tallac Historic Site. It includes the Baldwin Museum, Pope Estate and Valhalla. Its a fun way to see how the rich and famous once lived at Lake Tahoe. Its open in the summer time. In the winter its closed.
