About
Brewery tours run Monday to Sunday, starting from the Visitors Centre, they last approximately 2 hours. The first 1½ hours are spent around the brewery where you'll see our original steam engine, learn about our history and how we make our range of delicious beers. Once outside the Brewery, don't forget to keep an eye out for our working Shire horses, which still deliver beer to our local pubs. In any event, the tour of the brewery includes a tour of the stables so you won’t miss out on seeing these amazing animals. Upon completion of the tour, it's back to our sampling bar in the Visitor Centre for a ½ hour beer tasting. It is essential to book a Brewery Tour by contacting us on the phone or email.

- Sunshine159141197332 contributionsA good day out.The tour was interesting and informative, the brewery is a mixture of original and new equipment. We had an excellent lunch in the cafe before the tour. The tour ended with free samples of their range of beers rather than the one free drink most places provide. The shop has a good selection of food as well as drinks we all enjoyed browsing in it.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 January 2024
- Mike HCerne Abbas, United Kingdom1 contributionA must visit working breweryA splendid indoor venue during inclement weather, we dressed warmly are both over 80 and did not find the many steep stairs too much. Our guide David M was most informative, humerous and obviously passionate about the building, the process and the end product, we could not have hoped for a better guide. I have been on other brewery visits and put this up there at the top and highly recommend a visit to anyone, there is the splendid building, fascinating old machinery still in use, albeit adapted from steam to electricity, beautiful shire horses and of course excellent beers from this historic brewery. A must if you are visiting the Oxford area and if your guide happens to be David M, a bonus.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 January 2024
- Steve C1 contributionHook Norton Brewery TourThis was our third tour of Hook Norton Brewery. We took 2 friends on the tour and like us they were very impressed by the building, the engineering and the history. Leon our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about the brewing process and everything connected with the brewery and all delivered with great passion and humour. It was great to sample some of the beer and we topped our tour off with a lovely meal in the restaurant. Many thanks Steve and SoniaVisited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 January 2024
- Barry SLondon, United Kingdom3 contributionsBeer and historical enthusiastsThis trip was arranged for my brothers 75th birthday treat we join him on a fantastic experience and the guide Peter was very informative and took excellent care that we all were involved in the experience understanding the unique experience of brewing beers from days gone bye. Would recommend to any beer lovers interested in the making of historical beer. Also any historical people wish this visit industry past. The tasting at the end is a very educational experience. Well worth the two hours. Thanks again too Peter our guide.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 February 2024
- 実佳 鈴7 contributionsA delightful tourIt was a superb tour. I stayed in Oxford and on the day train strikes were scheduled and the only way to go there was to take S3 and 488. I had hours before the tour and I had to rush for a bus soon after the tasting (it turned out the bus was twenty minutes late and I did not have to rush). However, it was worth this journey troubles, or I should say more, much more than worth the hustles. The brewery buildings were remarkable and we could step into the working space they actually brew beer. We could smell it and feel it. And the guide, Martin, was knowledgeable and his talk is very interesting and his love of the brewery with its history fascinated us. Although I cannot drink a lot, —-in fact I can drink just a few sips and this is enough for me — this tour was impressive. And the neighbouring villlage (I had a few hours before the tour) was charming. I learned I was in Cotswold!Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 4 February 2024
- Martha2 contributionsWonderful brewery tour and lunch for a birthday outing! We booked onto the 12 o'clock tour on Sunday and were taken around the brewery by Keith (brilliant tour guide). It was a splendid 2 hours filled with knowledge and insights to this old Victorian brewery. Sampling the produce at the end was very welcome and the whole thing was topped off with a delicious lunch in the restaurant - can't recommend it all enough!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 February 2024
- Alicedawson12 contributionsAmazing day!Amazing day. Special thanks to Malcolm our tour guide who was very informative. At the end we got to taste the different beers and got a free half pint glass which was a lovely touch. We had breakfast before in the cafe on site which was very yummy!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 February 2024
- Timothy F1 contributionThe Brilliant Hooky Brewery TourWe loved the tour, a little bit of history then we were lucky and it was a day the steam engine was running! Then up and down all the steps looking at the beautiful old machinery, smelling the gains and hops then finishing with a little taste of the beers! We all totally recommend it!!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2024
- Navigate537269303741 contributionExceeded expectationsAn excellent Saturday afternoon tour with the personable and knowledgeable Peter guiding. Realise why with limited production capacity we rarely see Hook Norton in Essex. Great shame because the brewery has some of the best traditional beers in the Country.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 8 February 2024
- CLE6 contributionsReally Entertaining and InformativeWe have been to a number of brewery tours over the years but this is by far the best we've ever been on. So many breweries talk of heritage, but only this one can demonstrate how it still brews in a building over 150 years old with some of the original equipment and run by the 6th generation of the family that started it. Our tour guide Chris was both very interesting and entertaining, and the samples at the end were especially welcome. We have recommended this tour to a number of friends since attending P.S. Don't forget to see the lovely shire horses tooVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 February 2024

My son bought me a tour for Father’s Day Keith our tour guide was brilliant and attentive and pitched really well (15.30 tour)
Would strongly recommend this tour and excellent value for money loved the fact the shire horses also get a pint at the end of the day.
The whole experience takes modern day production with a Victorian manufacturing process twist.
Thanks Keith for a unique experience

Firstly my family and I had breakfast in the Malt Kitchen (very tasty, I had the Nduja Eggs) before my brother and I did the brewery tour.
While a little sceptical at first as the history of the brewery was being listed, Roz quickly transitioned into a full tour of the brewery itself.
Roz had an excellent understanding of the entire building plus a history of the different processes and delivered it in a punchy way that kept us interested and well informed.
After the tour we had a 30 minute tasting session in an intimate downstairs bar where we were able to try as many of the different brews as we could fit in! Needless to say; we were able to get our money's worth.
Overall I'd say this was well worth the money and I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in history, architecture or just beer!

As we were staying in the village, and are beer fans, we thought it would be a fun thing to book ourselves on a tour of the brewery. We went for the 5.15pm tour, which finished at the perfect time to go to the local pub for dinner afterwards.
Leon was very knowledgeable, and impressively managed to shout over the machinery: apparently they had mistimed a Christmas order, meaning that the grinders were running through the first half of the tour. I found this really interesting to actually see it in action (if it was a bit loud).
There are a lot of steps that are in places very steep: our group had no issues with them, but worth bearing in mind.
The tasting session at the end was very good, with a nice selection of the beers available. We were very thankful to not be driving afterwards, as it meant we could try all of the pulls, taps and a couple of the bottles too. Would recommend that if you can avoid driving, you will be able to enjoy this part more!

A must for any beer-lover! Monty was superb as our tour guide, entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the brewing industry. The tour started in the brewery museum, then moved to the brewery itself to witness all phases of the brewing process, popped outside to see the beautiful shire horses, before concluding in the tasting room. We visited on the first Saturday of the month in order to see the steam engine running, an extra bonus. Monty was very informative about each of the beers during the sampling session at the end of the tour, and we were given our glasses as souvenirs. An excellent way to spend 3 hours.

Highly recommend a visit to this brewery, the tour around the brewery is almost a must if you are within a reasonable travel distance. The visit takes you back in time in the days of steam power, the steam as the capability of supply the whole brewery via belt driven line shafts through all 5 floors, being an oldie myself took me back to my early working life in the engineering trade. Our guide Chris was first rate, very knowledgable, polite, enthusiastic, and passionate about his work. In addition to the tour the added bonus is you get the sample the product, which if you enjoy real ale I can also thoroughly recommend. Our group took the tour in the afternoon, if you do go, I think the morning tour maybe even better if that is possible, only because the brewing will be at a more interesting stage that in the afternoon when it is mainly over.

Fabulous tour with Monty, very knowledgable and interesting. Entry through the shop, a hi fiz jacket supplied to wear whilst on the premises, started tour upstairs in the museum then onto the main brewery. There are several flights of steps to negotiate whilst on the tour to bare in mind, sensible shoes are required. Lovely to see the working shire horses, keeping the drayman tradition going! Great tasting the beers at the end, on returning the jacket a nice souvenir glass is supplied! We stayed on to have a lovely lunch (Cod in beer batter, chips and mushy peas) in the Malthouse Kitchen. Thoroughly enjoyable visit, definitely recommend if you’re interested in how proper beers are handcrafted!

We took a tour on Saturday at 12.00pm. Our tour guide Monty was very informative and interesting to listen to and he made sure we all enjoyed ourselves.
The building was amazing and well cared for.
We then had lunch in the restaurant where the food was well cooked, presented and was good value for money. Our waitress was efficient with a lovely attitude.
We all thorough enjoyed the day,
Well done to the family for keeping it going in these difficult times.

We took a brewery tour with Monty, who was absolutely brilliant. We loved listening to the history of the brewery, visiting their horses, seeing the processes involved and most importantly getting a tasting session at the end! It was excellent value for money and Monty was so entertaining and engaging, his love for the brewery and the beer was clear.
We also had a lovely lunch (highly recommend their drayman’s dinner for the hooky cheese) and took some beers plus other nifty gifts away from their store.

This tour is amazing. It’s so great to see a traditional brewery with it’s Victorian machinery still in tact. Keith, the tour guide was lovely and made us feel very welcome with his personal anecdotes and funny beer facts. I’ve been on multiple brewery tours and they’re often stingy with the tasting at the end - Keith certainly wasn’t! In the private bar/cellar (which was also very cool) Keith let us try all the hooky we wanted that we all left pretty tipsy. Clearly a great selling tactic as the whole group spent a fortunate in the shop afterwards stocking up on bottle and bottles of their very tasty beer haha! The whole thing was fab from start to finish and I challenge anyone to not enjoy themselves. Brilliant tour!

The tour was led by Leon, he made the tour very interesting, and kept us entertained throughout making the tour informative and humorous too. The building is fascinating both outside and in and has appeared in films. We were also able to meet the three shire horses, two of which are still working horses at the brewery. The two hour tour ended in the bar in the cellar in which we were able to sample the Hook Norton beers. This is the only tour we have been on in which the samples are not strictly limited, we also received a free beer glass - inscribed “tour completed” we would definitely recommend this tour and also the restaurant afterwards for lunch.

The shop, Malt House Kitchen and museum / visitor centre can be visited when open without charge.
There is a modest charge for a guided tour of the Victorian brewery which is NOT suitable for anyone with mobility issues as there are over 100 steps to ascend and descend.
You cannot visit the brewery itself without a guide due to health and safety laws.
Pre-booking is advisable weekdays and almost essential at weekends.
Check out their website for more info.

Is the Brewery Tour dog friendly? Thank you

I wouldn't think so. The Brewery is very narrow with steepish steps only 1 person per step.
