Great auckland side trip excursion if you are into working for your views..the summit track takes about 1.5-2hr for the moderate hiker (and may include taking alternate routes up to the summit viewpoint which i recommend). The views of auckland city and surround are farther than awe-inspiring, unlike most things in NZ. Still would recommend for anyone who wants a workout with some nature incentive. Book fullers ferry in advance. Don’t park in the cruise ship bay. …

My friend and I did this hike - it only really got steep as you neared the summit. There were a few stops along the way to do some readings and read up on the islands history. Beautiful changing landscape as you ascend.

We enjoyed our afternoon summit walk on Rangitoto. The track is uphill but not too strenuous. It recommends 1 hour each way but we did it in 45 mins each way. Take time to stop and enjoy the view at the top & explore the lava caves on the way back. We took the 12:15 fullers ferry there and the 4:00 return. Make sure you don’t miss the last ferry and take all food/snacks 🙃✌🏼🥾…

Had a fantastic walk to the top of Rangitoto. Definitely not as long as estimated if you have a good base fitness.

First time hiking Rangitoto Island and the view is so worth it! Jump on a ferry from town or Devonport which is a 25 minute ride to Rangitoto. Follow the track and make sure you take food and plenty of water, sunscreen and hats - there’s no supplies on the island and because of the black rock - it radiates heat. Give yourself a good 3-4 hours at least for the trip. …
