- Todd CollierCardiff, United Kingdom115 contributionsGreat Cable Car Ride and Amazing ViewsCable car up to the top was amazing. Such a great view of Vancouver down below. It wasn't a sunny day and it was snowing once we got to the top. It was out of season so wasn't too busy. There was an ice rink. Staff were shovelling ice off the paths ready for the Peak of Christmas. The bears were hibernating. There was an incredible view past the bear den of the snowy mountains on the horizon. Probably not much to do here unless you're skiing.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 November 2023
- Marc WWeymouth, United Kingdom1,949 contributionsBest views of Vancouver!A free shuttle bus runs regularly to Grouse Mountain and back from Canada Place, downtown Vancouver, which takes around 25 minutes. We arrived and got straight onto the gondola without any queuing. Once at the top there was plenty to do, if we had realised that there was so much to do and see we would've tried to arrive earlier! But in the time we had we did well! Bears, birds, lunch, chairlift to the summit, and we even watched the amazing Lumberjack Show, which, as I said was amazing! And as I said previously, the views back over Vancouver are stunning, the closer to the sky you are the better the views! At $79.00pp, I'd say it's good value for money.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 January 2024
- Carrie_and_TedVancouver, Canada26 contributionsGrouse Mountain adventure with Grizzly bearsWe took the free shuttle from Canada Place and enjoyed the fantastic view from the gondola ride up Grouse Mountain. First stop was to see the two adult Grizzly bears, Grinder and Coola (rescued as orphaned cubs) and they did not disappoint as they ignored us while they enjoyed a dip in their pool. We also enjoyed the Birds in Motion and Lumberjack shows and found time for the kids to play on the rope adventure. The view from the cafeteria is spectacular and we saw the free movie before heading back down the gondola.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2024
- brownm48 contributionsDefinitely worth the moneyWe decided we had to see this as we had read the reviews and we weren't disappointed. There's a free shuttle to the entrance from Canada Square which makes things really easy and then it's straight into the gondola and up the mountain. There's some amazing views out over Vancouver on the way up but once you are up there, there's so much more to see. We watched most of the Lumberjack show which was fun but more aimed at the kids, then we watched the Raptor display, which was brilliant. We then did an eco-walk and the guide for that was really interesting, giving us information on the plants and animals but also on the indigenous people and also how climate change is affecting the mountain. Next we took a ski lift up to the very top of the mountain. My wife was really brave as she doesn't like heights but did it in both directions and we even saw a humming bird on the way down! We finished off with an owl display which was once again really interesting and prepared for the gondola down. We thought the queue looked a bit long but after half an hour it hadn't moved. We then found out from one of the other visitors that the gondola had a fault and was being fixed. Unfortunately there was no announcement from the staff telling us this. We contemplated walking down as this takes about an hour but as it was a hot day, decided to wait and got down after about another 45 minutes. Then the shuttle back to downtown and the end of a fabulous day. Definitely do it, it's pricey but worth it.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 August 2024

They both went for it and what could easily have been a sad end to the day, turned into their best day ever - for both of them. A huge sense of achievement for the eldest and a reminder of the fun for the youngest - a great memory for the end of the day at Grouse. The fact that there are four routes to make your way through is brilliant value for money. And by the time we’d finished, the cloud had lifted and we enjoyed the ride back down with a view. Perfect ending to the the day. We’d definitely recommend it.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 August 2024

We were unlucky to visit on a foggy damp day which spoiled our visit a bit, but it was the only day available to us. Took shuttle bus from downtown there and back which worked out fine. There are a number of attractions at the top of the cable car ride and it was popular with mountain bikers and runners. There was also a zipline. We had a snack in the cafe at the top which was reasonable. On a clear day I am sure the views would be spectacular but it was too foggy when we went to see anything. There is q Lumberjack show included in the admission price which is pleasant enough half hour. We were lucky enough to geta sighting of the grizzly bears in their enclosure and were overwhelmed by the size of them.

We really enjoyed our visit to this mountain venue. You can watch the bears hibernating on the cctv, The restaurant and bars are very busy and the food is good. The gift shop is particularly interesting with unusual things to buy. The walks in the area, on the ski runs are good.

Hi Perle D,
Thanks for the kind words and the 5 stars!
We're really pleased that you had a positive experience up here. If you like you can even watch the bears, Grinder and Coola, hibernate through the webcam on the Grouse Mountain website. But what's even better is watching them roam around and play when they're awake! We hope you get the chance to come back and visit us in the green seasons!

My family and I visited Grouse Mountain by Sunset Rate a few days ago. It costed us CAD$25 per person just for taking the short trip of the crowed cable car with scratched windows. No activities except avoiding tons of mosquitoes and flies can be done on the mountain. We thought we can at least look at the view of the city of Vancouver. However, the best view has been blocked by the restaurant which can only be accessed by admission ticket holders. Only a small lookout blocked by tall pine trees is available for us to take a peek of the city.
So, I don't recommend anyone to visit Grouse Mountain by Sunset Rate. If you want to take a gondola, just go to Sea to Sky Gondola. You can occupy the whole gondola by yourself and have a longer trip. If you want to look at the view of Vancouver from the North Shore, you may go to Cypress Lookout. It is free of charge and with less mosquitoes and flies.

Lovely place to spend a day in Vancouver. Nice to watch the bears up close. The lumberjack show was entertaining especially for kids & adults alike. Can recommend this tourist attraction very eadily.

Hi Maurmee,
Thanks for the review and the 5 stars! It sounds you had a terrific day up here with our two bears, Grinder and Coola, and our two lumberjacks. It's winter now and the bears are both hibernation. So are the lumberjacks!
We hope you get to come back soon!

My 14 year old daughter spent several years in the Hollyburn cross country ski club, but in the last few years has expressed interest in downhill skiing. She was registered for youth lessons at Grouse Mountain this year. She had not been on skis since last winter. On the first day of her lesson, the young substitute instructor took her on runs that she felt unready to tackle. Rather than move her to a different group, she was pressured to continue. A snowboarder cut her off and she fell and injured her wrist - she came home with it wrapped. She has since refused to attend the remaining ski lessons and is now afraid of the activity. When my husband phoned guest services they were unconcerned that she had such a negative experience. This is a fun, energetic kid who can run up a steep incline on cross country skis and loved to ski the roller coaster run on Cypress. These lessons have ruined her interest in downhill.

Took the Skyride Tram up the 3000 ft to the top of Grouse Mountain, great views from the ride up and when you reach the Peak.. Close to downtown Vancouver offers night skiing and some nice runs off the backside of the mountain. I hiked around and walked to the Grizzly Habitat, 2 very large male Grizzly bears.. Grinder & Coola live in the Habitat, they were brought to the Grizzly Park when young cubs in poor health, they have now lived 19 years at the Habitat, they know their names.. & will soon be having a nice warm 4 month nap.. putting their tired heads down on a pillow until the Spring.. the fence around the enclosure is highly electrified.. so don't try to touch or get your young child near it.. Zapp, the Bear's get a kick out of it..

My letter to grouse Mountain
Dear ski camp supervisor,
My 5 year old daughter is registered in the Sunday afternoon lessons. Yesterday was our first lesson and it was a very negative experience all around.
Right from the start, she was not in the same group as her cousin despite the two of them being the same level and me requesting this.
Things only got worse. The instructor showed zero enthusiasms and made no effort to connect with with kids.
I am a teacher myself and before that I supervised the pedalheads bike camp for over 6 years. One of my responsibilities was training the instructors. Of course most of the instructors are youth themselves but we always put the most friendly and enthusiastic instructors with the little ones.
For the 5/6 year olds who are learning to ski everything is new and overwhelming. I had zero confidence leaving my child with the instructor. And right from the start as the sea of kids started walking towards the tram the instructor made no effort to keep the group together. He didn't keep an eye on them or communicated where to go. (Actually he didn't say much throughout the lesson, a mumble here a mumble there that none of the kids or myself understood)
It was up to the 5 year olds to follow him, some carrying skis and walking in ski boots, meanwhile every instructor is wearing the same blue jacket.
It was at that moment that I decided, I better go up with the class to make sure my kid is ok. When I got to the group as they stood in line for the tram, I found my daughter in tears. The instructor didn't even notice. I convinced her things would get better once they got on the snow.
However, it wasn't until about 145 that the group actually started skiing (the lesson started at 1230. The entire experience was an exercise in inefficiency. Just getting from the top of the tram to the rental hut took about 20 min. Combine a 100m uphill walk with slippery snow and small 5yr old legs (some with ski boots and carrying skis) and no help from the instructor, I'm surprised they made it up at all. Getting all the gear on the kids also took a few tries but after about 30 min they were ready to go.
However, there was another hill, albeit much shorter, they they had to overcome, this time with skis on. The poor kids, bless their hearts, gave it their all trying to grab walk, but most went backwards instead of up. Again, minimal help from the instructor, not even words of encouragement.
I am not really blaming the instructor here. He's probably a teenager himself. I'm sure he's a great skier and would be fine with an older 10+ group. I am very disappointed with the supervisor who put him in charger of 5/6 year olds.
Needless to say we will not be continuing lessons at Grouse Mountain

Twelve family members signed up and pre paid online like the encourage.
Get there and there is No Parking or coordination in lot. Other then kid pointing to stay to right.
If they also fish bones the angle of parking lot all facing one way and backed in to park and leave out lower road the could increase lot size by a lot.
As for tickets they over sold for day with well in 500 people waiting to go up.
The sky ride packed like sardines with excess of 30 people on it at once which I am sure does not meet COVID protocol.
There was no way after driving in from eastern valley and probably stand inline for close to 2 hours with kids were we going to to even think of making it up and down in a good time and having a good day for the Christmas events they had set up.
Thank you Grouse mountain for the family run event.
Won’t be back again.
Hope you are making up for the slow year last year at everyone’s expense.

Grouse Mountain is wonderful and the view from the top can’t be beat. But …..paying $59 (senior rate) plus tax, in the off season when several of the included attractions aren’t even open, and then paying to park on top of that, is a bit over the top opportunistic.

Hello everyone, I will be visiting Vancouver around the end of November 2024, I can't seem to find answers about the free shuttle from Canada Place. Is it really free and when will the schedule be up? On the website it only indicates free SUMMER shuttle.
Written 14 October 2024
Hi,
It’s free and you you’ll have an information tent right in front of the shuttle’s stop.

I’m visiting in early July. I haven’t decided whether to hike up or go up the gondola. Do I need to book the gondola in advance or can I buy a ticket on the day?
Written 15 June 2023
Sorry for the late reply. I would recommend taking the Gondola up Grouse Mountain. And no, you don't need to book in advance. We bought tickets on the day that we decided to visit. I think I bought them online at the upload point, because it was a bit cheaper than buying tickets at the ticket box. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Hi I'm a sole traveller planning to visit late October23, on my one day stopover. Will the free shuttle be no longer operating? I want to catch the Gondola - whats the most straightforward way of getting to the Gondola start in October? Thanks

How can I get to Grouse Mountain with 1 Adult and 2 Kids from Downtown Vancouver? We don't have a car. Will be in Mid September.
Written 17 January 2023
Hello,
We got a small tour for a bus to take us there.
You can buy the tickets on Trip advisor or directly at the Canada Place Kiosk.
They take you to Grouse Mountain, let you be there for a few hours and on the way back they stop at Capilano suspension Bridge, which is a must.
Great experience, totally recommended.

Hi All
I’m considering the Breakfast with the Bears for my family and I next May before our Disney cruise. I see the times listed are 0830–1030. What time can one reasonably guess it takes to complete the breakfast and spend time at this park? Should this be a whole day adventure or can it be done in a few hours before our embarkation?
Written 21 November 2019
We did not have the breakfast and so it is difficult to be specific for you. I think the time you spend will depend on what you want to do and how much time you have.
The are some shows that are 'must dos' - for example the lumberjack show and the birds of prey. I was a bit disappointed with the bears as it was really just like seeing them in a zoo.
Do not underestimate the time it takes to get up and down. The queues build quickly.
If it were me I would take the day unless you have something else that you specifically want to do. I would take your own lunch - food is expensive and average.
