About
Where History Comes to Life - Stroll down the streets of our 1920s community. Period costumed townsfolk welcome visitors and give demonstrations in the homes, businesses and shops. Visitors can feel the heat of the fire as the blacksmith works at the forge, hear the rhythm of the platen press at the Burnaby Post, smell freshly ground coffee in the General Store, be a 1920s student in a one-room schoolhouse, watch the tinsmith cut, crimp & curl flat sheets of tin into useful household items. Everyone is welcome to take a ride on the 1912 CW Parker Carousel, explore the restored 1912 Interurban Tram, and enjoy a treat in the Ice Cream Parlour. The Village is open seasonally (Spring Break in March, Summer Season- early May to Labour Day, and Heritage Christmas-late November to early January) and year-round for pre-booked groups and programs.

This is a 'town' of 1920's historical buildings that have been restored to their former glory, inside and out. You can enter and walk around (a few you could only see inside through the windows). There was a nice variety of buildings and they were well done on the insides. There were some 'town folks' in some of the buildings to answer questions.
There is a larger version of this near where I live and they add the element of having working stores as part of their park. For example, the candy store sells real candy (old fashion types of course), a working ice cream parlor, etc. This adds to the fun of visiting. Still, this was well worth the visit.

Our visit to BC was the last week in December. We had heard that the Burnaby Village Museum was a good place to see holiday light displays and, since we had planned some shopping at Metrotown, we took the short bus ride to the Village. Frankly, after seeing the lights at Butchart Gardens and the Capilano Bridge, the lights were a bit underwhelming but they really were quite nice - and admission was FREE! The museum itself was better than expected. I thought my teens would be bored with the history but they really enjoyed it. The museum is arranged like a real village, with a school house, blacksmith shop, general store, music shop, and much more. A highlight was the old carousel which we got to ride (not free but a whopping $2.60). Highly recommended.

A brilliant museum where you are made to feel most welcome. Lots to see and read about without being overwhelming, they have done an excellent job in depicting a 1920’s village. It’s so good that you although it has free entry well worth making a donation. They have a donation box for cash, or you can donate on line. We visited on a Sunday morning and there was plenty of free parking. Thank you so much

We went for the Eerie Illusions event where the Burnaby Village Museum is transformed into a Halloween park. This self-guided family friendly Halloween experience is good fun with kids. The museum has exhibits that are all laid out and you can visualise what a Canadian town looked like in the 1920s. For Halloween, all the exhibits are given a makeover with some really spooky exhibits added. Overall it was great fun

We paid a visit here today and it was super. The museum is free to go in and has some wonderful exhibits of houses with some dating back 120 years. The exhibits are all laid out and you can actually visualise what a Canadian town looked like back in the 1920s. My favourite was the Love farmhouse which was what I would consider grand for its time. We rode on the carousel which has been lovingly resorted by the volunteers. This is definitely worth a visit as it is so well presented and extremely interesting.

A great free place to visit just a stone throw from Vancouver. Free. Lots of interesting historical information to find in old homes and shops. Holiday time and the festive season was really busy but worth it to see the Christmas lights. Parking can be tricky at peak time also but there is a free undercover car park opposite the museum. The carousel is a nice to see but not worth queuing up for an hour. The trolley bus is worth it. All in all it is well worth visiting. We spent just over 2 hours but would have spent longer if it hadn't been so cold.

There were not too many of the buildings open but maybe that was a good thing as we had 5 year olds with us. The carousel was the highlight of the visit but they weren't letting very many kids on at a time which made the wait a bit difficult when attention spans were short. I think for this visit, the adults might have enjoyed the Christmas at the Museum much more than the little guys.

I've always loved Burnaby Village Museum, but returning with my children was magical. Not only have they done a fabulous job incorporating an inclusive approach to Burnaby's diverse history, but their carousel is awesome.
My toddler daughter is a huge fan of Canadian 90s children's rockstar, Charlotte Diamond, and one of her music videos was filmed at that carousel back in the 80s. We have been talking about visiting the "Charlotte Diamond carousel" for months, and our visit yesterday was magical. I've never seen her smile so big. Thank you so much ❤️

This informative and family-friendly place has gathered and refurbished a number of century old buildings to suggest what life was like in the lower mainland 100 years ago. The old car, the general store, the old car and the steam engine were all great. The best, however, wad the little movie theater showing a Charley Chaplin film.

Awesome place! A must visit museum in Vancouver. Old world charm, well preserved heritage. Reminded me of my mom and grandma’s collection of home decorations. Holiday decorations were beautiful in 2019. Carousel was so much fun even for us adults!! Great service at the cafe’ and loved going into the old shops. Good place to spend 3-4 hours <3 My family and I are missing going there this year!
