Fantastic evening out. The guys running it are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Very laid back approach and happy to show you anything in the night sky that you are interested in.

We were gifted a Dark Sky Wales experience as a Christmas present and we really enjoyed the event. Although we were not able to view the night sky because of the weather we were treated to an excellent presentation by Allan using a large screen and brilliant night sky software. We felt we learnt a lot and it has given us the confidence and knowledge to start exploring the night sky on our own. We think we have discovered a new life time hobby and we cant wait to get started! Thank you Allan.

We attended last night in the hopes of seeing the stars, however, in line with typical Welsh weather the cloud was upon us and we didn’t get to see any.
This didn’t stop us having a fantastic time.

Allan gave an insightful talk and was very knowledgable, telling tales and origins of the stars and constellations.
We were given tips and tricks on how to use the tools we already have to star gaze at our leisure and with very little experience.

We were overall very happy with our visit and will definitely book again!

This was an amazing experience. We were very lucky to see amazing sights in the sky including the Milky Way. Alan and Andy were amazing host who gave an insightful talk when it became overcast and made the experience very friendly would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dark sky experience 29th January 2024.

It is difficult to describe what a disappointing experience this was. Nothing was as advertised and we were completely misled as to what the evening would contain. Dark Sky Wales on this occasion had no intention of providing a memorable experience, wasted 2 hours of our time and took our money under false pretences.
We had Martin hosting the evening. Allan (who appears to be the ‘star’ of this particular show) was apparently having dinner somewhere in a hotel. The weather was completely overcast on arrival and so of course no opportunity for star gazing. We were therefore expecting a talk on all things to do with astronomy. As they advertise this might well be interrupted if the skies cleared to allow views of the night sky. The 1 hour talk on Astronomy was actually on Welsh Mythology. This is a pet subject for Martin and I am sure he thoroughly enjoyed boring us with myths and legends. Strangely, the fact that we were expecting astronomy passed Martin by. At the end of the talk Martin did say we could see the observatory but “my mate Allan has the keys” besides it is a bit of a mess down there and we have no power so I have to bring batteries when we use it. There was obviously no intention of doing any star gazing whatever the weather. The second hour was spent looking at bits of rock (and a plastic dinosaur claw) with some very dubious provenance. This might have been reasonable (without the plastic claw) for about 15 minutes but an hour?
Finally as we left the skies were 60% clear with a good showing of stars. We don’t know when the skies cleared but neither does Martin!
We have written to Allan requesting a refund but as yet he has not had the courtesy to respond.
I would recommend a trip to the Kielder Observatory. They know how to host an evening including inclement weather - with not a bit of mythology in sight.
I am sure they do some good evenings if the skies are clear and Allan is there, if not it is a scam and our search for a refund continues.

Hi Julie I'm sorry you did not receive the experience you expected. To state that no reply to your email was received is false. Just so you know, I responded on Jan 31st, 28 minutes after receiving your original complaint, which addressed your concerns. Please check your email. Allan

Fantastic experience. The weather was against us but that can't be controlled. We went in the warm room and Allan was extremely informative and gave a great talk about the night sky. We will be booking to go again.

Fantastic experience. Really interesting presentation while cloud was thick and then had opportunity to see the stars and nebulae through telescope, binoculars and with the naked eye. Seeing the Pleiades through binoculars was a highlight !

Excellent night spent with Welsh astronomers, Allan & Steve of Dark Skies Wales in Brecon Beacons. The sky was initially cloudy so we were invited inside for a presentation by Allan on the constellations and planets. Allan is an engaging storyteller who wowed us with the Greek myths that inform the way we look at the night sky. The clouds finally cleared and we were able to go outside to look at the night's delights through the telescopes they'd set up. I saw the Seven Sisters winking back at me! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

The difficulty with Stargazing are clouds! Unfortunately on the 11th of January 2024, at the Brecon Beacons visitor centre, the clouds rolled in. But all was not lost because Allan Trow the manager of Dark Sky Wales and our professional guide to the stars, took us through an excellent presentation and Q&A session. The presentation was full of detail and recommendations in developing your own stargazing experience plus some excellent photographs from various sites in Wales and beyond taken by Allan and various colleagues.
Although Jupiter and her moons remained hidden from view it was a pleasure to listen to an expert with such enthusiasm for their subject. A very enjoyable evening.

Allan gave us an informative and interesting talk about the stars as the weather just wasn't co-operating with us! It's a shame when this happens, but there's literally nothing the guys could do and we could tell they were gutted by the cloud cover. It's just inspired us to come again. Thank you.
