“The free guided visit was incredible!”
Jul 2019
I grew up in a farm above this village and although I don’t live in Spain anymore, I heard that they had started working on the castle. It’s finally open to the public! Only 30% of it has been restored so far, but it really is worth the visit. The guide knows a lot about the area and answered all our questions thoughtfully. It is one of the only moorish castles left (well, apart from the Alhambra of course) standing in this area. Right now, you have to go to the Oficina de Turismo to let them know you would like to visit the castle. It is located on Avenida San Rogelio across from Bar El Molino. Then they will send you to the castle’s entrance to wait for the guide. There is no phone number to call, hopefully in the near future you will be able to call ahead.

“Impresionante visita y magnífico guía”

The best thing about the visit is your Guide, Juan. A gentleman who knows perfectly well the history of the castle and the village. It conveys very pleasantly his passion for the historical and cultural heritage of Illora, which makes you enjoy the tour even more. The castle is very well rehabilitated and the accessibility in it is quite good. Its cisterns stand out, one of them very well preserved and with water.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
