About
Melin Tregwynt, a delightful whitewashed woollen mill in a remote wooded valley on the Pembrokeshire coast, has been weaving since the 17th century, when local farmers would bring their fleeces to be spun into yarn and woven into fine Welsh wool blankets. Owned by the same family since 1912 it now employs over 35 people. Simple in spirit, satisfying in quality and timeless in design our Welsh woollens can be found in design-led stores and hotels worldwide. Simple stylish clothing, accessories and bags, blankets, throws and cushions – all in our own unique fabrics. You can buy directly from our mill shop and order online or from our catalogue. Our millshop, and great cafe are open 7 days a week. You can also see the mill working from 10.00am – 4.00pm Mon - Friday. On the edge of the Pembrokeshire National Park, just off the Coastal Way road we offer electric car charging and free parking. There are spectacular beaches, cliffs and coastal footpaths all within easy reach of the mill.

    Above and Beyond
Everything about this place is perfect. The products in the shop are outstanding. The cafe is excellent. As a vegan it was extra special as there was food for us, even plant milk for the coffee. The toilets were spotless, a very effective hand drier in the female loo. So many other places have lame hand driers, but here they have invested in the best of everything. The staff in the cafe were wonderful and so hard working. The people in the shop are fabulous too. The quality of the woolen products are so perfect. Thank you, I wish other places were so caring of their customers. You go above and beyond for your clientel. Diolch yn fair.

Interesting little place to visit with beautiful blankets and throws to buy, and a fab cafe with friendly staff.
Lovely little place to visit and see them making the blankets and throws. The cafe is amazing too, yummy cakes and the best coffee I’ve had in ages. I’d be here all the time if I lived nearby. Shop has lovely things to buy and locally produced items. All staff were friendly and helpful. Short walk from here to a beautiful beach too. We used the car park then had some delicious cakes when we got back.

    No trouble at mill.
We had a look around the working parts of the mill and then visited the cafe. Lovely fish cakes and salad followed by a slice of cake each. We popped into the shop before we left and spent too much. Very friendly staff, and clean toilets. It’s a very popular place to visit judging by the amount of cars which we saw in the car park, and this was before the holiday season starts!

    Interesting, great place to visit
We visited on a Sunday afternoon and were so pleased we had. Lovely setting, beautifully maintained and very interesting. The mill is open to look into as well as the old water wheel being restored and shown working. There is a well made film showing how the mill works and about the cloth woven there. Very nice shop with high quality goods. Didn't visit the cafe but looked nice with plenty of tables to sit at.

    Lovely location and nice cafe
I popped in to have a cup of tea and maybe a morsel of something tasty I plumped for the Welsh Brew tea and scone with cream and jam. All very delicious and just over £6. Plenty of paninis and sandwiches, as well as soup and other specials on offer. Alcohol too if you fancy. Not many tables inside, but lots of covered seating outside, so ideal for dogs.

Strange way to operate a cafe
I called with a friend yesterday to meet for lunch, however 5 tables had reservations on them! I’m sure you are loosing out as I heard a family ask if they could have one of the tables for an hour before the reservation was due. There was a lot of debate going on! Many people called in for lunch but were disappointed. I appreciate you have outdoor seating but in this weather it’s not really appropriate. We were lucky that we managed to find a small two seater table vacant but it seems all the best tables were reserved. A bit off putting when you’ve travelled a few miles, you are a cafe not a restaurant so why don’t you operate on a first come first served basis?? It did spoil our overall experience.

We have visited the mill many times and always enjoyed our visits. This time we were collecting a jacket ordered and we were really impressed by the procedures put in place for Covid. The shop has been expanded to replace the indoor cafe seating area, this creates lots of space for one way shopping.
One huge bonus for us is the expansion of outside covered seating/dining which meant we could eat as we had our dog with us.
The food here is fabulous. I had gluten free fish cakes and my husband had beef cawl which he said was one of the tastiest meals out he had had in a long while. It is all served at table with a smile. Details were taken for tracing and only those seated at a table were served to control numbers. Sanitiser everywhere, best Covid procedures we have come across on our first trip back to Wales since the lockdown. Will definitely go back this trip.

Hi Tracey Thank you so much for your wonderful review. The cawl is definitely one of the favourites on our menu. It’s lovely to receive such positive feedback on our new covid safe procedures. Look forward to seeing you again soon at the mill.

Good place with a amazing Cafe for a afternoon lunch.
There are two EV charging spots - free for guests.
The wool knitting process is something new for kids to see.
The woolen shop is priced on the higher side but well reflects quality of the products.

Due to coronavirus restrictions only the shop at Tregwynt was open and only allowing one family group at a time. This meant a longish wait outside, but did allow us to look around properly once in the building. Great to have the assistance of the staff who were really friendly and helpful. Lots of people at the mill eating in the cafe.

Hi Nicki Thank you for your review. We are happy to say that as of this weekend the mill will also be open to visitors now it has been made safe for the staff working away inside. Apologies if you had to queue for a little while bit due to space restrictions and the safety and comfort of our staff and visitors we are only allowing 6 people inside at any one time. The shop, mill and cafe (outside) are all open 10am to 4pm every day. Look forward to seeing you again soon. Thanks.

We popped in to the cafe for coffee and cake whilst in the area. The cafe is dog-friendly and provides a lovely selection of food.....breakfasts, hot dinners, sandwiches, cakes etc. We did not visit the actual Mill area as it was their lunch break, but will certainly call in sometime soon, at a more convenient time to see the workings of the woollen mill which I'm sure will be very interesting.

All areas of the cafe and gift shop were compliant with the current Covid rules and precautions. Cafe staff were lovely, pleasant and helpful. The coffee here is very good.
We had a look around the gift shop afterwards and I was very impressed by the large display of gifts. There is no 'tat' here. The merchandise is all of excellent quality. It's very nice indeed and we intend coming back soon. Thank you to all at Tregwynt Woollen Mill. We shall return.

This is the 2nd time we have visited in 6years and I must say it has improved for the better. Firstly, we decided on a cafe visit, they have the Covid thingy nailed, very comfy and with heaters provided, food was spot on and the hot chocolate was superb, slight mistake made by the kitchen that was extremely prompt to sort out and in a friendly manner. Food was very tasty too. Staff are courteous and helpful. Then we visited the shop, purchases made, again, all in all a nice visit.

Had a lovely time here today.

Decent sized car park. Lovely cafe - you have the choice of sitting inside, outside in the garden or outside in little covered huts. We chose the huts as the weather was drizzly. Lovely food, served quickly.

We then went into the Mill and watched a very interesting film about the intricacies of making the fabrics. You can also look into the working mill and observe the staff and machinery working.

Finally we had a look around the shop - the products are gorgeous but as expected very expensive, nearly £200 for a throw, which is out of most people's reach but when you see the care and work that goes into the product you realise why the price is as it us. I bought some off-cuts so I can have a go at making a few things myself.

Finally, if you have walking difficulties, like me, everything is really close together and the loos are assessible and beautifully clean.

Thought we should look at a wool mill and this seemed a good one from the reviews in addition the cafe could be a good place for lunch.

The cafe would if you like roast dinner on a Sunday but being vegetarian made do with coffee and bara brith, both were tasty.

The mill is interesting with an exhibition with several shorts films about the workings, history of the place featuring the staff who work there. In addition there was shop selling their and other Welsh produce plus you could see the old mill which used to power the place and workshop.

Very old, pretty woollen mill which has been extensively modernised with up to date looms. There is an exhibition where you can sit and watch several short videos about how everything works, and the jobs of the staff who work there - great for a rainy day! The gift shop stocks gorgeous throws, blankets and clothing, pottery and jewellery. There is a large car park. A very professional operation and an excellent place to visit.

Feeling reassured by their Instagram account that there would be a welcome during their post Christmas opening hours, we arrived just after midday to find 95% of tables reserved for lunch bookings from 1.15pm onwards. The remaining few 5% of tables had customers already seated, but the cafe seemed empty and free. We then noticed all empty tables had reserved signs. Unfortunately there was no welcome, no smile, no engaging staff and we had to hang around the counter waiting for an eventual hello. Same in shop, so already the whole visit was disappointing from the start, especially with guests. There was a plentiful supply of staff, no one was rushed off their feet in any way and only a handful of seated customers were present on the few tables and had been served with coffees etc. After politely asking if we could sit, it was confirmed all the free tables were indeed for reservations only, that people pop in to reserve, and then go off for a long walk. Sunbed mentality. We were told tables are booked out for two hours and there'd be no point us coming back as it would be too late in the day. Only three of us, but they just didn't want to accommodate us in any small way despite an hour wasted before the first reservation would arrive, because "sometimes people come back early and you'll have to move outside". It seemed clear the cafe team had already decided it was enough for the day. No one wants to sit outside on picnic tables thanks, elderly or not, in the freezing, wet and misty December weather that day, and quite a distance down from the cafe too!

We are always so accommodating to Pembrokeshire and have lovingly supported Tregwynt through generations, with guests from all over spending a lot. Never write reviews as are locals, but we thought this needs to be noted how hopeless our experience here was, and it didn't need to be. It wasn't the first time.

Please decide Tregwynt and make it clear to customers that spontaneous cafe walk-ins aren't successful here as too many empty tables are held for too long and customers who are hoping for a cafe experience are turned away.
