Well, ministers island is a well kept secret, especially if you're trying to find any information about it bearing off season. Once I read the small print on a glass enclosed board, I discovered tours were offered from the mainland at 11:00. The staff showed up about 15 of and were friendly and knowledgeable. Slapping 2 Thomas Jeffersons in their... More

The first attraction is of course that you drive or walk over the ocean floor (a very tiny part of it), and then there's the visit of the house, the bath house, carriage house, ... It is a vry nice site, and considering it all depends on gifts, legacies and volunteer work, it is no wonder that part of the... More

For 10 years now my sister and I have been coming to Saint Andrews and have driven past the road that goes to Ministers Island , never giving it a second thought , we were told that is was a very interesting place to visit while we were staying at the Algonquin , decided this is the year to see... This was so cool! You drive across the sea floor onto an island owned by a railroad barron back in the day. His sprawling estate is in various stages of needing restoration, but many original details bring you back to what this place must have felt like as an escape from city life during the turn of the century. Walk... More

A few of us avid outdoor enthusiasts visited Ministers island recently. What a pleasurable experience. You get the feeling you are living in the late 1800s and enjoying some of the luxuries the rich upper class at the time would have experienced in the day. Visit the magnificent mansion of Sir William van Horne and the fascinating other buildings on... More

Lovely historic island with a tour of the main house, lovely scenery, a huge barn and several walking trails. Quite an adventure to drive on the ocean floor at low tide to reach this attraction. Just be sure to return before the tide comes up!!!!

Waiting for the tides to be right, then driving to the Island to explore this beautiful estate of a former railroad baron is stuff movies are made of. The time flies as you visit each of the rooms of the mansion, have a picnic lunch by the bath house and then explore the barn which held cattle, horses, pigs and... More

Never had enough time here as it was such a great place. I suggest to pick a good time when the tides are right and plan ahead so you have more time. You need to drive across an intra tidal road so plan this one. The main house the barn down at the beach house were all excellent. I loved... More

Check the tide times to ensure the visit fits with your plans. We had a good day wandering the house and the barns. I do wish that they had staff members sitting at the barns though to help with information. They had several at the house, but none at the barn.
