We revisited the Duder Regional park on weekend. The Duder Regional Park is a large coastal farm park located on the pohutukawa fringed Whakakaiwhara Peninsula and offers spectacular 360 degree views.
The car park at the entrance of the park has toilet facilities, maps and the shoes cleaning station for preventing kauri dieback disease.
The park offers many scenic walking tracks. We took nearly two hours to reach the Whakakaiwhara point at the tip of the peninsula

One of the great place we visited during this trip in NZ. some slops, wind, a lot of goats and an amazing sense of space.

Easy walk through farmland with nice sea views culminating in the walk to the pa site. Very nice for the amount of effort required.

Duders beach is a full tide beach. It is great for young families.Not too deep, Not allowed to take shell fish. Lovely drive around the coast road from Mareatai Beach..

I've walked around this park many times. It is still a working farm (on a small scale) has simply stunning views of the gulf from all angles. Not a lot of trees, as it was a farm for a long, long time, but a lot of bush blocks have been left and are being expanded over time and will see the bush increase. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy farm and water views with few other people then this is the place for you.

We went for a 2-3 hours walk and covered the Duder park's Blue and Red tracks. One goes through the farm lands and the other around the coastal edges. Beauty of this park is that its perched on a hill and you start from the bottom to reach the coastal areas with nice views. Although the walk is uphill, it wasn't tiring or anything with gentle slope. If you are going from Auckland then make sure to stop at Clevedon's Sat/Sun market to have you breakfast and shop fruits, nuts etc..Atmosphere is great and it sits in a valley, so you get nice surroundings too. We've driven along Maraetai Coast Road south of Auckland several times and never really paid attention to the Duder Regional Park turnoff until recently. Turns out we’d been missing a scenic walk to the remains of an old Pa site (fortified Māori settlement) at the end of Whakakaiwhara Point with great views of Waiheke and Ponui (Chamberlins) Islands. The main loop track is just over 4km and apart from a little climb up to a trig beacon is easy and family friendly. The walk out to the point, which is well worth it, adds about another hour return. Bear in mind that the park is also a working farm so you'll be walking through paddocks with cows and sheep, but they all seemed friendly enough ;-)

I went here with my husbnd for a walk, not expecting it could be a bit of a hike for a newbie. It was a great piece of land. Awesome views and the peninsula has fantastic view.
Im glad we went there. It was a beauty!
No money spent. Gear up with a comfortable walking shoes, sunnies and a hat. Bring a bottle of water and snacks. You can do picknick and enjoy the fresh air and view.

Started to rain so didn’t stop too long but worth a visit if you can get out to Maraetai first. Beautiful beach east of Auckland

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and were surprised to find cars overflowing well down the access road. There evidently was an orienteering event just concluding. Nevertheless we pressed on and found a walk initially level close to the coast and then rising to overlook the sea towards Maraetai and then returning down a small valley path. A number of tracks are available and judging by our experience are all clearly signposted. As we had little ones with us we were somewhat limited as to the extent of our explorations but nevertheless enjoyed our visit. Views were often superb.

About how long of a drive from Auckland? Ponsonby area in particular?
Also, how how long of a drive from the airport?

Allow an hour from both locations ....not because it's far but traffic in Auckland at the moment is a real issue unfortunately...... enjoy!! Oh and I would suggest maraitai beach as another cool spot....
