These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National...

These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

For years and years I have heard about how amazing Butchart Gardens is. It is a 55 acre garden...which I guess is small because one could walk around all the paths in 20 - 30 minutes. We took the full 2 hours that the Sea and Adventure tour allowed (after spending a few hours in Victoria) and it was just... More

We had been advised that this was a "must see" attraction. You cannot help but be very impressed by what has been achieved here- even for non garden lovers. A great place to visit and to spend a few hours admiring the immaculate gardens.

It took me a whole to visit this famous garden from Vancouver. A long Ferry ride from mainland, about 1 and half hours. Beyond my exception. Arrive @ very lay back city of Victoria, you can take the bus 71? 84 from ferry stop direct to the Garden, the admission fee is 27 CAD ? There are many different sub-gardens... More

For a place that is lauded over, and takes considerable time and cost to get to i was underwhelmed by my visit here. It's about 30-40 minutes drive from the city centre and entrance is a bit over $30 which i considered overpriced especially when most gardens are free or much cheaper. Being the main tourist draw card it is... More

Butchart gardens were beautiful, easy to get to, a great place to visit for 1/2 a day. We decided to take the small boat that took us out into a small bay owned by Butchart, a welcome breeze, and very relaxing.

It costs $36 to enter, which is way too expensive for what you see. It is a nice walk, but you can do this in any nicer park for free and you would also have much nicer views. Most people were older and maybe for their age group this is fine. Also, getting there and back is hard. The bus... More

I have been dragged to Bots gardens all over the world....the Gardens at Singapore and Blanes in Spain were top but......in truth I enjoyed this garden.......very pretty place and lovely colours. Have to mention the top ice cream too.................the place has everything well done to them.

Well worth the drive from Victoria. We went in summer and all the flowers were out. What a picture! I didn't see a weed and all the plants were well maintained. The carousel was a surprise but fitted in perfectly. We had a meal at the restaurant which was lovely as well.

Rose gardens are unparalleled but make sure you also see the sunken garden and the fountains. Tour buses arrive early but if you are in by 9:15 you'll be okay. Otherwise, in the summer come after 3pm to avoid the crowds. If you drive, suggest you stop at Red Barn Market to pick up great local fruit and sandwiches as... More
