Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

If you love beautiful gardens and serenity, this is an absolute must for anyone visiting Vancouver Island. Tip: crowds are less first thing in the morning and the light is better for picture taking. If I ever get back, will plan to be there in...More

As a [expletive deleted] amateur gardener in my own right, the imagination, effort, and density of flowers in the garden are discouraging. How do they get begonias to grow 4' tall? Dense geraniums when mine are rangy and tired by September? Towering sequoias when my...More

Beautiful gardens and a lovely place to stroll through. Wander with a partner or a group visiting the city. Well worth the trip to Central Saanich.

What a fabulous place, with a vast array of colours from the plants and trees, water features and the fountain make this a wonderful place to stroll around, and if it rains there are umbrella stations all around.

We only knew of Butchart Garden by reading about them, and we are so glad we visited. There are numerous gardens in various styles, and it is amazing that in September there are still so many flowers still in full bloom. This really is a...More

Buchart Gardens is open in January, but be mindful it's winter so you will not see blooming roses, etc., however the shrubs and trees are beautiful.

I would say 2 hours with kids is a lot of time. Unless they are avid gardeners of course. You can stop and get a snack in the gardens near the fountain in the the sunken gardens. They sell chips and ice cream and drinks I... More

Vancouver is experiencing long hot summer this year, so the flowers will still be there. We were at the garden on 4th Sept and everything was fine.
