We visited the museum and art gallery on a Sunday, shortly after it opened at 10am. There was no entrance charge and it was left to the visitor to make a contribution, with £5 being the suggested amount. There is a cafe and toilets on the ground floor. It is quite a large place and so you need to allocate... More

We went to see the exhibition of the Anglo Saxon hoard found in Shropshire. The detail is astonishing, we were given magnifying glasses to see better, the accompanying film was excellent, would really recommend. The museum has always been a good place to visit and these special exhibitions they have from time to time are excellent.

Such a variety. Kids will love it too. We spend a good few hours here (including a soup lunch) and were surprised at the range/variety of exhibits. Not to be missed.

Don't bother visiting if you have young children who want to have fun! Visited with two children (8 & 3) who were extremely well behaved and just wanted to look at the exhibits, one member of staff followed us around moaning every time they did something (i.e. opened the door into the art gallery which apparently was unnecessary!) making us... I do love this museum and my kids too. It has everything to keep them occupied. A few hands on displays didn't work by the dinosaur area but this is a free museum! The lockers are very useful but a few didn't have keys. We came very early so this wasn't an issue. The staff were all friendly and polite.... More

Amazed that this museum has not received 5* reviews across the board. Firstly entrance is free which is a real plus in these relatively austere times. Secondly, and more importantly this museum houses some world class exhibits. The paintings were particularly impressive with some stunning impressionists and rare medieval icons. The gallery of modern art also impressed. Also on the... More

Spread over 3 floors in a beautiful Georgian building, this museum has a range of permanent exhibits and paintings, supplemented by occasional visiting or seasonal displays. When we went, these were: Mexican art and Saxon gold from the Staffordshire hoard. The articles from the Staffordshire hoard on display were gold ornamentation from swords, daggers, weapon-harness and some exquisite brooches. These... More

My first visit with daughter in law and Grandson. Very impressed that it is free entry, it was busy with families which is lovely to see. A very interesting Anglo Saxon interactive display. Cafe was clean and staff friendly. Food was delicious. A lovely few hours.

Very interesting. Lots to see including the Egyptian exhibits and the Dinosaur exhibits. You could easily spend a pleasant afternoon here. It is free to go in but you can leave a donation if you wish. Some exhibitions have to be paid for. There is a cafe with lots of seating which serves hot and cold food and a nice... More

It is a really cool museum! Many things to see. Not that big, but rich in history and art. I'll definitely go back!
