Warning - Bad comedy
Nov 2019
The venue is cold, lots of people had their coats on. The food was not what we ordered. It was cold. They struggled to find salt for the chips. There was no relish as promised. At time of booking it said order food and get a table. There were no tables.

The comedy came in 4 parts. The host and 3 comics. The host was dreadful. The 1st comic was bad. His closing effort was a 5 minute story about a Black Lives Matter protest finishing with 'all black people look the same' punch line. The 2nd guy was not a comic but a 3rd rate magician.

The last guy stopped the night from being a complete waste. He was funny but it was too little too late.

Don't complain though they will tell you to get lost.

A mixed bag really
May 2019 • Friends
This was the strangest experience of a comedy club I have had. We left agreeing it was good, but throughout were a little bemused, confused and surprised.

First of all the warning you are greeted with at the door about behaviour, is really unwelcoming.

Then we made our way to the bar, only to find out they don't have drinks on draught and that the bottled beer was £6.50 for a 330ml bottle!!! (needless to say, I only bought one).

Then the compere came on and he was very funny and started to make us feel more welcome. He introduced the 1st act...

He was very odd, not funny at all, more like a kind of story teller, almost poetic in a style of john cooper clarke. Everyone felt so awkward. My mate fell asleep and people started going to the bathroom to escape the agony whilst the comedian called us a 'tough crowd'.

This is the weird bit. you can hear people going to the bathroom when you are sat in the audience. Then the hand driers drown out the sound of the comedians.

The last 2 comedians were very funny and the compere continued to impress. BUT, here's the next weird bit, you're in a nightclub, so you can hear the music starting to play. The bass goes through the floor and you can feel it as well as hear it.

We left, collected our £100 deposit for 'being good' and couldn't wait to talk all about the odd experience outside.

Highly recommend

We've been to this comedy club several times now, when we come to stay in bristol. It's extremely good value for money, you get three comedian's plus the compere which is an act in itself. The comedian's are professional and varied. It's in a good location, inside prism nightclub in a separate area. Location good for pre and after drinks, or you can stay in the club afterwards. The food is cheap and cheerful, but I think it's fine for the occasion. We will definitely be returning again next time we're in bristol!

I had a brilliant night at riproar! It was very cheap as I bought from Groupon. The food was surprisingly nice. I would 100% come again.

A FAB night out
Nov 2014 • Friends
Party of 20 of us went to Riproar last night and had one amazing night out.
New venue for them, and currently using the downstairs Steam Bar Cafe, which we thought would be negative, but it turned out a major positive as the comedians had the window with the back drop of a Bristol street behind them - with passers-by wondering what entertainment they were missing. One comedian, (the brilliant Duncan Oakley) made a massive thing of it which gave so much hilarity to all, it actually became most of his act. (you had to be there!)
Price of £20 for 3 comedians and food we thought was great value - not megga over-priced on the drinks at the bar either, which most Bristol venues are guilty of. Music after the comedy allowed more mingling and a boogie if you wanted to. Host very welcoming, pleasant bar staff too which always is added value in my books
Will definitely be organising another group event here again - just can't wait for the next installment.

Comedy good, skip the food!
I've been here a couple of times. The comedy's been pretty good both times and I'd happily go again but the food is pretty dire so don't waste your money on it! I didn't have high expectations of the food, but was at least expecting wetherspoons standard. Be prepared for dirty burger van standards.

Awesome club
Jun 2013
Went to Riproar for my birthday on Saturday, never having been to a stand-up comedy show before.

According to their flyers and their website, it looks like this venue is new for Riproar, and I couldn't believe what I saw when I got up there.  At first, it looks a bit like you're going into an office building, with a small foyer and what looks like a reception desk. But once you emerge from the lift onto the fifth floor and get into the room itself, the views of Bristol are jaw-dropping. You can see for miles in every direction and watch the night time revellers on Bristol's waterfront.

The venue is set up, almost in two halves. One side is the comedy performance area, with table seating, stage, lights, and microphone as you'd expect. The other, the bar, comfy seating and food serving area. The whole place has a very industrial feel to it, with cool lighting and steel work carrying the electrics.

We ate at the club and were really surprised - they seem to have very little in the way of kitchen space, but produced fresh pork, and a range of huge salads and fresh rolls. The service was a little haphazard but there were lots and lots of people eating, so I guess it was a case of just knocking out the food asap.  We had stacks on our plate - great for a few of my 'bigger' friends who loved it.  I'm a vegetarian so had the veg skewers, which I loved.  That there is only a choice of three meals is perhaps disappointing, but given the lack of facilities, what they offered was amazing.  The floury rolls made for a lot of jokes about illegal substances as most of my mates ended up with flour round their nose.

The comedy was great - a guy called Mitch Benn was on last, who I'd seen a lot of on YouTube and heard on the radio.  The middle act didn't do so well, which was a shame because I thought he had great material.  He was put off by a couple of loud-mouthed idiots who ruined his act.  Security kicked them out in the next interval, which I was pleased to see; I didn't expect a comedy club to police its show as well as this. The opening act and guy who stayed on to introduce the other acts stole it for me - I think his name was Jim (too much alcohol!).  He was brilliant, and I'm sure he'll be one of the stars of the future that Riproar seems to have a reputation for booking.

I'll definitely go back - I've been bitten by the stand-up bug, and this is one hell of a club.

Great value Fun night out
Jun 2013 • Friends
Great venue in the heart of the Harbour. Don't be put off by the fact that it is on the top floor of an office, the views are to die for. Well laid out venue with friendly bar staff. We went for the meal deal and enjoyed the very generous portions and selection of fresh food. We were not expecting much as we had come for the comedy but the food was a pleasant surprise. There were a couple of class acts. All in all a fun chilled evening and great value. We wIll be back.
