- pilgrim51599 contributionsGlorious theatreWho doesn't love the Bristol Hippodrome? Just going into the auditorium is magical This time we were here to see La Traviata. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for knee surgery and couldn't bend my knee. The lovely young staff found me somewhere else to sit and brought me a much needed glass of water. I'm also struggling with a chest infection and had to leave the auditorium twice because of coughing. Both times the staff were very attentive. Even coming into the foyer, the doorman searching handbags helped me up the slippery step. Thank you to everybody who helped me. Oh, and the opera was good as well.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- Jo SGloucester, United Kingdom46 contributionsThe tour, not a showA great couple hours learning about the history of the theatre. You get to see the auditorium from the stage and then experience it from every level. You do not get to see the truly hidden areas such as basement or dressing rooms so as long as you know that, it really is a great couple of hours. The guide was great. Lovely style and informative.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 November 2023
- Kelly HBristol, United Kingdom60 contributionsGreat ShowWe went to see pretty woman 11/11/23 . Was a great show with fab actors and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would say it was slightly let down by the actors mics messing up a couple times so we couldn't hear them and spot lights not actually being in the right place and the actor had to move. Never experienced that before at Bristol hippodrome but was still enjoyable.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 November 2023
- glyn871Bath, United Kingdom26 contributionsDisappointed lets get back to basics and ditch RuPaulTook our grandsons of 5 and 7 to their first Panto expecting a swashbuckling evening for them but although they enjoyed the spectacle and the music I thought the inclusion of the Dame in every scene as some sort of RuPaul drag race was a bit beyond the pale and a bit of a storyline would have been better. Where was the slapstick humour? Poirot revealed at the end as a storyline? (Spoiler there) How do they and many other children have the faintest idea who Poirot is! Sorry but for a £150 night out I was very disappointed and won't be taking them next year.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 December 2023
- Pacific B2 contributionsVery DisappointedVery disappointed, spent £200 on tickets for 2 adults and one child, there was no storyline, stage was okay nothing special a few great professional actors David Suchet, Faye Tozer and Ceri Dupee. Drag queen kept appearing throught the show and Smee! just didn't make sense really! Smee again and again, started to get bored of him.. Watched Cinderealla last year good actors absolutely a Spentacular show amazing g actors good storyline. I doubt if we will be going next year !! Wasted my Evening and time driving 2 hours!!!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 December 2023
- Stephen MBristol, United Kingdom183 contributionsGreat show in older venueThe Theatre is an iconic venue in Bristol but boy does it has a few issues. Bars are OK albeit the one on the first floor is a bit soulless in decor and I would definitely recommend drinking elsewhere as the drinks are eye wateringly expensive (in my opinion) Inside sound quality is excellent but there is little room between the rows. I'm only 5 ft 10 ins but it felt a tad cramped. Sound quality a view good. Great show. One other thing toilets are small, cramped and insufficient for that number of patrons Would I go again-yes but drink elsewhere!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 January 2024

Booked seats in the stalls and had a great view of the stage, booster seats available for small children which is amazing and allows them a better view without having to sit on your lap. Faye Tozer, Andy Ford, David Suchet and Ceri Dupree were amazing and so funny! I especially enjoyed the pirate version of the twelve days of Christmas. Fab performance from all and amazing memories made.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 January 2024

We had a lovely night here and would go again. We ate in Ciao, a beautiful Italian Restaurant around the corner from the theatre and would highly recommend it for a pre theatre meal.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 February 2024
- Pink4 contributionsOverpriced snacks and drinksThe show was out of this world. The seats are not at all comfortably but cant see a way around this given the age of the theatre. I was surprised we had to have all our bags searched on entry (unsure if security reasons or to check for food or drink)? The cost of the drinks and snacks were extremely pricy and unjustified in my opinion. In fact Disneyland's are cheaper! Not really needed in the economic climate.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 February 2024
- TammyWard2Wiltshire, United Kingdom2 contributionsDiversity March - 2024 Fantastic show!!!Went to see Diversity last night with my daughter and had the most amazing time! We sat in the front row of the grand circle and the view was brilliant. I was concerned as I had heard it can get very hot in the theatre. To my surprise the temperature was perfect. Massive shout out to Louise the security guard, she did an amazing job after the show whilst we were waiting at the stage door. She stood in the cold and wet and was a joy to speak with. Kept us all entertained, she was fab!!!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 March 2024

Theatre has a great feel, not at all modern, truly original.
Dick Whittington was superb, the cast were really engaged and there were many laughs had by all. As always Shane R was very entertaining and a pleasure to watch, having seen him in panto before we were glad we drove the two and half hour journey was well worth it.

We regularly go to this theatre and on the past three occasions we have been disappointed at the poor sound quality. We can’t make out what the actors are saying, the sound is screeching and muffled. Come on Bristol Hippodrome we pay good money to see these great shows, you are letting us down and the actors trying to perform a show

We decided on an impulse to go to Chicago, as I have friends who have seen it in London. It was stylish & fun & it is great being able to access such shows fairly locally.
The theatre itself is ornate, now looking a bit faded in parts, but having gone through nearly 2 years of very reduced revenue that is understandable. I was a bit taken aback by the audience eating popcorn & ordering drinks to their seats, more like in a cinema, but clearly the management know their clientele. I was also surprised by how exhausting & hard many seemed to find the stairs to the Upper Circle - we are retired but have no difficulty with it, though the circle itself is pretty steeply raked to get to lower rows.
The security staff outside were courteous, as were the ushers. The only thing I don't like is ATG's ticketing arrangements - the constantly shifting prices & the additional fees. However they do have some excellent deals at the moment to attract audiences back post Covid.

I went to see the Marriage of Figaro by the Welsh National Opera. Absolutely one of the best performances I've ever seen....just perfect!
But the venue: it really is a disgrace that we can't provide a suitable venue for such great performances.
Everything about the building is cramp. The toilets are a disgrace and the seats are cramp and uncomfortable.
It took 20 minutes to leave after the performance due to narrow circumventing corridors. This would make an emergency evacuation in the event of a fire a disaster bearing in mind that there would be panic due to constricted escape routes.
The place needs bulldozing and a decent venue in replacement

Was so looking forward to seeing this with the family but left very disappointed. This was more like a school production than something produced at the Hippodrome where we have always been previously impressed.
Wasn’t expecting a reproduction of the the movie but script was not great made worse by poor acting, poor casting and, for a few of the characters, not great singing! The guy playing Buddy tried hard and was the strongest performer by far though still fell short of the mark. Set was one of the biggest disappointments, looked to have been done a shoestring budget and definitely not what we would expect from a professional large venue charging what they were. We were very tempted to leave at the interval but figured we may as well see it through. Would not recommend this show and the Hippodrome should be ashamed of allowing it in their venue.

I have been going to the Hippodrome for nearly 30 years and find myself writing a negative review. The Hippodrome has never been the best venue for comfort but has always been entertaining. The show I partially watched was Beauty and the Beast. I had been looking forward to going back to the theatre for a long time. The seating has never been the greatest but throw on that the unbearable heat and this was the least enjoyable experience of any other time I had been there. I could not enjoy the show and was just wanting the intermission to happen so I could leave, and that is exactly what I did when the curtain fell in the middle of the show my partner and I decided to leave as could not bare to put ourselves through what felt like torture. The Hippodrome does have pretty much the monopoly in Bristol with the exception of the Old Vic, and it is beginning to feel like they do not care to make improvements for its audience, I understand that it is an old venue and so there are probably restrictions in place but PLEASE look at the seating it is terrible and takes away from what should be an enjoyable experience. Has the Bristol Hippodrome just stopped caring? In total I paid £100 for 2 seats and feel that the show is not enough to be classed as value for money other similar entertainment venues across the country have made investments and I believe that it is time this theatre did the same. I will not comment on the show as it would be unfair on the performers as I would not be able to give an honest review of that part.

We watched Beauty and the Beast last month which was great in terms of the cast, show, set, music etc.
Unfortunately the back row 'seating' was brutally uncomfortable and required me to stand for the rest of the show at the half-time interval.
I wasn't the only person who felt the same and despite polite requests to the ushers the show continued and we were not resituated in alternative seating.
I wouldn't rush back to the Bristol Hippodrome as the queues for drinks were slow moving and the back row seating was awful!

Very good shows, but theatre in a poor state and seats too closely spaced. The theatre decor is lovely but the ceiling is falling apart and dirty in patches. I sat through a 2 1/2 hour performance in constant pain and could hardly walk afterwards because there is minimal legroom. I suggest for 2 people to buy 3 seats to give somewhere for your knees !

As a regular theatre goer I never fail to be shocked by the bar prices at the Bristol Hippodrome. Prices are very well hidden or not displayed at all because I absolutely would not have paid £9.40 for a can of wine and plastic pint cup. Why is this theatre more expensive than the West End? No wonder they search your bags so thoroughly, god forbid you should bring your own drinks in and avoid being bankrupt in their bar. Today was the time I’ll ever buy a drink at this theatre and if others have any sense, they’ll a quick last drink in the pub right next door. You might even get a real glass to drink from!

We saw this hilarious slightly irreverent show at The Hippodrome. The theatre reminds me of a London theatre. It is obviously steeped in history and very attractive inside. This production was extremely popular and sold out for a matinee performance. We decided to Park and Ride from Brislington and the every 20 minutes journey was excellent. We will definitely visit this theatre again and look forward to the experience.

Rock Orchestra this Friday. Does it start at 7.30pm and finish at 9pm? Or is there something on before the main show?

Hi,
We can only book a box as my Mum is disabled so we actually visit the ticket office at The Hippodrome to sort this in person.
I’m sorry I am not sure what we paid as we get a carers ticket discount.

Hi I realise this is now a year to late but may help others. I've sat in the second row in the stalls for the lion King and although it's great to be close to the front, there were parts of the show I didn't see, at one point everyone was laying down and I couldn't see them, my daughter 7 at the time obviously had the same problem. I will say it was great for when the animals bowed though, my daughter had a faceful of giraffe, which she loved!
