I bought this tour as a Christmas gift for my brother and I to go on as we both have an interest in modern art, banksy etc and have been to the city’s Upfest previously. This was a great way of delving behind the artwork and finding more about the people who created them as well as some of the history behind graffiti and street art. We were looking at things you’d normally miss or walk straight past if you were in a rush, and had chance to ask questions/take photos. The guide himself knew street artists personally and was heavily involved in the scene. Would recommend! (The walk itself was two hours and wasn’t too taxing except for one short bit of steep bit of hill, so should suit most people)

It was my first experience of the Bristol Street Art Tours and I couldn’t recommend a better way to spend a morning in such a vibrant city.
Our tour guide (John Nation) was extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter and had an overwhelming love of the city that was contagious to everyone in our group.
We were subjected to a very well informed, unbiased view of how the street art world works, the various styles and sub culture that exist within it and how it runs in tandem with other sub cultures within Bristol.
Banksy featured along the walk as you would expect what with Bristol being his home town but many other artists were equally shared with us giving all those attending a comprehensive understanding of the art form and it’s many styles and tendrils.

I had no idea of Slaps/ceramic tiles/posters and other mediums utilised by the blooming artists from this city and my respect for how diverse and vibrant this culture has become has grown exponentially.

We stopped along the way to take in many different pieces and each was fully explained as to how it was created, what it represented and who had produced the work.

This is an excellent way in to understanding the street art movement if you have such an inclination.

It’s equally a very entertaining and pleasant way to spend a few hours in the morning before lunch.

I was extremely impressed by this tour and can not recommend it highly enough.

Young, old, conservative, left wing. It makes no difference. You will have an enjoyable time and get fit whilst having it. You will also get to see some truly beautiful art forms which would ordinarily just pass you by from a car window on your daily commute.

My understanding of the diverse communities that coexist within this colourful city has been reset and refreshed.

Stokes Croft is a true eye opener and one that everyone should witness. The sheer colour and vibrancy of the place is a rare treat in an otherwise regular urban sprawl. But this area is not regular, it’s exciting, vibrant, alive and only by seeing from the street itself could I truly appreciate that. The hidden gems up the side streets that you would never know of unless you take a walk around.

Thank you Bristol Street Art Tours and thank you to our guide John Nation.

I loved this tour, and so did my wife & kids. None of us had any prior knowledge of the Bristol street art scene, other than a vague idea that Banksy might be from this area. But we were all fascinated during the 2 hour tour - even the Bristol drizzle wasn't enough to dampen our enthusiasm. The guide John has in-depth knowledge of the city, and the local art scene, and is obviously passionate about both. This is a must-do tour for anyone visiting the lovely city of Bristol.

We booked this tour as the first activity to do on arriving in Bristol and what a fantastic way to kick off your visit. We met John a few minutes away from our hotel and booked in, to be given a headset/personal listening device and talked through some of the logistics of the tour as we had a 14 year old and a 10 year old with us. The headset was clean and ready to use. Having the headset/personal listening device meant that we were able to hear John from quite a distance and as a group still feel that you heard everything that was being said. The art is quite distracting so this is very helpful. John is very clearly a passionate supporter of the artists and it is clear that he is on this journey with them having worked with them. I would advise being as comfortable as possible whilst on the tour, as it was hot on ours - take water and wear comfy shoes. There were quite a few kids with us, all of whom looked like they were enjoying themselves (ours did), this did mean that we weren't able to take in as much as was possible in the two hours but we were not disappointed. Added bonus was seeing John catch up with a street artist whilst we were admiring his work! Walking around in this way with a local, means that you get some idea of the locations that you might want to visit when you are there too.

We went on this tour today with the knowledgeable John who is clearly passionate about all things relating to street art. At the beginning of the tour, John told us that he would talk for the whole tour, and he did! However, nothing he said along the was ‘filling’ - it was all relevant to the tour and very insightful. The tour lasts the full two hours but the pace was leisurely and very manageable, even for those with buggies that were with us today. I especially appreciated the earpieces which worked brilliantly so that wherever you were in the group, you could hear John clearly and there was plenty of time at each stop to photograph each piece. I would recommend this tour to anyone, without hesitation. One thing though, if you feel like you want to do the hands-on spray art class afterwards, book early. We had wanted to do it but we’re disappointed that it was sold out.
A fantastic tour - thanks a million, John!

This was a wonderful experience with our guide John, who is an expert on the street art of Bristol and is absolutely steeped in its history. Here is a man who loves his calling. This is a two and a half hour tour led by a true enthusiast and I can assure you, it will rub off! He provides earphones with a little receiver, which picks up his voice, so no matter if you are at the back of the group - you can hear everything clearly!

John gave us so much information that only a person at the heart of the Bristol street art scene could know. It was fascinating. John, please write a book about the underbelly of this cultural phenomenon, the politics, the little nuggets of info that make it all so compelling! And it must be illustrated - of course! I would definitely buy it!

I highly recommend this tour - even in the drizzle it was fabulous!

I would really recommend taking the Where the Wall walking tour in Bristol. First of all, it is a great way to walk around the town and get to know a bit of places to visit after this tour. Besides that, you get to see a lot of things you completely walk by when walking the streets without any form of guide. The artwork is interesting and beautiful, especially when you get to know the stories behind the picture. Our guide (forgot his name) was really well-informed and a great plus was the fact that he handed out headphones at the start of the tour, so you won miss a part of his story because of ambient noise or the fact that you're staying behind a bit.

This is a brilliant tour. The chap who narrates is so passionate and knowledgeable, not only about street art but the town itself. A two hour tour that is very relaxed and goes at a leisurely walking pace. I took my 8 year old son and he was was hooked and really interested. I would recommend this as a great way to see different parts of Bristol and learn more about the history of bristol and its street art.

7 family members ranging in age from 14yrs to 53yrs had a great street art (and Bristol history, culture, community and politics) tour with John Legend last week. His knowledge and thought provoking narration was interesting, funny, enlightening, and made two hours sail by. I would highly recommend the tour. Thanks John

This tour is a must for visitors to the city and Bristolians alike. Jon our tour guide was brilliant throughout. He has been uniquely placed to observe and document not only graffiti history but also every significant British youth culture movement over the past 30 years or so. All the artwork you see and the artists responsible are talked about in detail and as a Bristolians myself I have to say I learnt plenty about pieces I have walked past a hundred times. The tour is perfectly pitched in terms of length of tour and ticket prices. I took the kids along who nearly froze to death but this did not deter Jon in giving a full 2 - 21/4 hour talk. We finished in Stokes Croft area of Bristol where there are plenty of Cafes and bars to immerse yourself in after the tour closes. Then there’s the hecklers who Jon dealt with superbly !
