We hired bikes at short notice after our kids saw others cycling and were sad not to have their own bikes with us. I think we were lucky that there were bikes available - best to book in advance. However, we got bikes and helmets for our 7 and nearly 4 year olds for an hour - booked online to maintain Covid-19 social distancing and no contact rules. All straightforward and very easy. The lovely, helpful guy working set the bikes up the the the right heights in no time at all, and the boys happily set off. The 7 year old has never ridden off road before but loved it, and the nearly 4 year old mastered pedal biking (previously had used a balance bike) in 30 mins. The light frames of the bikes we hired and having just the right frame and wheel sizes expertly chosen for him was no doubt a big factor in his sharp learning curve. Ashton Court is lovely and great terrain for kids' first off road cycling.

Staff and booking system efficient and friendly. I was able to extend my hire time for an extra hour for only £5. I think bells should be fitted to the bikes as a woman complained at me for not having one. The bike I rode had very squeaky rear break so could have done with some fine tuning. I would suggest to people hiring to take the bike for a quick test ride and if it's not comfortable or there's faults ask for a different bike (if they can provide it). Overall I would recommend pedal progression for good customer service and value for money

Hi there,
Sorry to hear that your hire bike had some issues. We do meticulously look after our hire fleet and in the rare case there is an issue, we'll do our best to switch out the bike for another, or where that's not possible, repair/tune the bike there and then.
Hopefully you'll visit us again soon to get the full 5 star experience!
Cheers,
Matt

Sent 6 12/13 year olds on a 2 hour instructor led session with Pedal Progression. Ollie, the instructor, was great and the boys said he was awesome and so friendly. They really enjoyed it and had such fun. Mixed range of mountain bike experience but all loved it. The whole process was easy and efficient from start to finish. Thanks so much.

Thanks for your review Lara. Ollie is a great instructor and will get the best out of kids, whatever their ability. We're really pleased the boys had such a great session.
We look forward to seeing you again soon,
Ally

My son had a fantastic mountain bike party with Ollie! Expertly led around the trails, the group came back filled with energy and excitement about their new biking skills and the fun they’d had. Ollie and Matt also made party planning extremely easy and were very friendly and responsive to emails. 100% recommend Pedal Progression!

We have never done off road mountain biking and my children (9 and 11 years) were nervous. Ollie at Pedal progression was very professional and explained the bikes and the map, and what the Door Sculpture was. Also how to avoid the energy sapping hill which was pricelessly good advice - thanks for that one.
The biking environment and terrain was good fun. It was nicely maintained and challenging for us all. My 11 year old claimed he was terrified and his eyes were nearly popping out his head but he arrived back to base with a massive smile and wonderful sense of achievement. My 9 year old did struggle with the bumpy paths and uphill incline but she laughed with joy on the downward humps and mastered all the forest threw at us.
For me as a road cyclist and tree lover it was liberating to combine the two. Staggeringly I have not explored this experience before and I loved it. The installation art was also a highlight and a great photo opportunity for the family album. I could see how it would be even more fun with rain, puddles and lots of mud.
My husband also had a huge grin and claimed it was good fun, which is great praise indeed.
For anyone wondering if they need instruction or if can just hire a bike and give it go I would say there was lots of fun in just hiring a bike and going for it. The route is well marked and just scary enough to not fear accidents, though do watch out for flies in the eye and mouth (too much laughing). Getting some instruction is on the to do list for next time, as well as taking my girlfriends along for a fun afternoon on bikes.
The facilitates were fine with picnic benches and toilets. There is a cafe but we took our own so cannot comment on the cake...this time.

Third time hiring from Pedal Progression and sadly a bit disappointed this time. On returning a bike 5 mins after hiring due to a suspect noise, we were told it was nothing terminal. So we rode the blue and red parts, brakes were shocking, back one pretty non existent and gears just kept slipping.
Returned after an hour and explained, to receive no apology. Poor show Pedal Progression!

Myself and two friends had a two-hour skills session with Phil and we arrived with a range of experience and skillsets. Phil assessed our level and tailored the session to suit us individually and as a group. We all learned a great deal from him and highly recommend the small group sessions for anyone who wishes to build confidence. The whole team were great to communicate with, especially as our numbers kept changing! A great asset for Bristol, thanks everyone!

Staff couldent be more helpful , helped with moving times slots and even extending times slots for other group members. Hired bikes on the day and they was well maintained and very upto date bike. Would definitely recommend the trails to beginners but can also be enjoyed by experienced riders. A must visit

Genuinely, as per my review title, forget those shiny new things for your bike that have popped up on your time line, or that your riding friends are all talking about on WhatsApp.
If you want real world benefits and gains to your riding abilities and enjoyment, a skills session with the Pedal Progression team is the biggest single boost you can find for your hard earned (other than buying dropper post!).
I have been riding for quite a while, and decided to use some money I had kindly been given for Christmas on a skills session with Pedal Progression.
I can honestly say it was the most useful 2 hrs spent riding on a Saturday morning that I can remember ever doing.
Ollie (K) was fantastic and listened to what I felt were my weaknesses, and after riding together around part of Ashton Court, we stopped and he critiqued my riding with both respect and kindness.
I was soon set to practising the techniques that I was doing less well, and working on making improvements to my skills.
The 2 hours flew by in a flash, and the debrief at the end was again done with respect and confidence.
The day after, I was riding in Wales, and practising what I had learned on every section I could - the difference was noticeable!
Honestly, don't spend money on parts for a bike you might sell in the future, spend money on the rider that you will be keeping your whole life.
Thank you Ollie.

Pedal progression staff were very helpful and had good bike knowledge including about other local trails in SW. Friendly and efficient service. The Marin hardtail performed brilliantly in the wet conditions. The tyres were very good for a hire bike and overall had no issues. Also excellent value for money!

Hi,
What a great review, thanks! :) We love our hire bikes and always try to stock bikes which compliment our local trails... I'm glad you'd agree they do!
Cheers,
