Very loud, very popular and very good

This pub is an institution in Bristol and has been playing live jazz and blues most nights for many years. It's often packed to the rafters but don't let that put you off. The slightly older crowd you get here are out to enjoy themselves and it's a very friendly atmosphere.

Great local treasure of a pub.

Went to this place to enjoy some jazz early one summer evening. We weren't disappointed, as a local band of musicians were on the stage jamming and proving it. Wonderful ambience, great decor, friendly staff. It got crowded very quickly, it was a miracle we found a place to sit. We will definitely go there again next time we're in Bristol.

Great Pub
Sep 2019 • Couples
We always visit this pub when we are staying in Bristol. My girlfriend is a professional musician and plays in several jazz bands. The music is always superb here, good beer (Courage Best) and great atmosphere. Yes it’s heaving at the weekends, but that is a sign of a good pub! Proper live music!!!

Iconic jazz venue
Sep 2019
I've been coming to The Old Duke for many years. My late husband played here back in the day as did friends such as Acker Bilk, Chris Barber etc. We came along today on a sentimental journey. The interior is plastered with photographs of jazzers, many of them signed. The atmosphere is still there! Directly opposite is the Llandogger Trow, another famous pub, this one with literary connections (Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe) etc.
