I have visited several times & the natural beauty on display here is just amazing, if your up for a Hike up through Cheddar Gorge then its totally worth while, but dont pay silly money to climb up Jacobs Ladder & the Gorge, use the public footpath ;) To the right of The Black Dog Saloon you will see Lippiatt... The caves are interesting but the highlight was the open top bus tour. Very informative guide and although only lasted 15 minutes or so, the drive through the gorge is just incredible. Highly recommend also walking up Jacobs ladder and enjoying the 3 mile hike along the top of the gorge. fantastic day out for all ages

As Bristolians, my partner and I visit Cheddar several time a year. Yesterday, sadly it was looking very scruffy. Cox's Mill Hotel is a central eye-sore with its broken or boarded up windows and the emergence of recent "Emporiums" around it is terrible. The emporiums sell cheap tat, resembling dirty scruffy jumble sales. In an area of outstanding natural beauty,... More

Mendips View, is a two bedroom cottage near Loxton. Axbridge.. Set in beautiful farmland surrounded by hills, it has long distant views. Only 10 mins from the M5. It seems a lifetime away from the rat race. The cottage is very well equipped and has a lovely kitchen. Two bathrooms complete the inside. Lots of room outside for children to... More

A wonderful drive through the gorge having visited Cheddar tourist shops and seen and sampled the cheese!! A short drive from there to Wells to visit probably the finest cathedral in Britain. The cathedral tour is amazing and to cap it all it was market day-Wednesday- so the city was buzzing!

The Mendips offer great walking, fantastic views and some lovely villages. I spent last weekend doing all of the Somerset 360s - and enjoyed some of the best coutryside that I have seen for a long while. Go out for a great walk and then enjoy a pint of the local cider - Perfect !

So a gentle stroll would finish off our holiday nicely I said to the wife. Stopped on the road near the footpath to black rock and picked up our map and compass. Once inside the track we found a hand map/leaflet by the side of the information board. This guided us through a circular walk with lots to lookout for.... More

Of course I am biased as I am lucky enough to live in this area. You can visit fantastic Cheddar Gorge, with it's towering cliffs and winding road, we have visited the Canadian Rockies and Cheddar is not far behind them in stature. Ebbor Gorge, with it's outstanding view to the Welsh coast (on a fine day) from the car... More

Excellent space for walks and outdoor life. Dogs enjoyed a few days running around and having a great time enjoying the countryside.

We took time to walk the Mendip Hills above Wells. The views are superb right across to and beyond Glastonbury. The public footpaths are well sign posted and usually follow the stone wall lines. At this time of year farmer are putting sheep and their lambs into these fields so dogs are required to be on leads. There is a... More
