- Helen K21 contributionsGreat fun was had by all!Our family of 4 adults loved our recent visit to the Wallace & Gromit escape room. I was a bit slower at catching onto the clues given around the room so was relieved that periodically, if we got stuck, helpful hints were shown on a TV screen. However, we still managed to escape in above average time!Helen K, Thank you for your review. We are so pleased you had fun and escaped in above average time. We hope to see you again! - 920rosie2 contributionsVery enjoyably puzzling hourWe've done escape rooms before so knew how it worked, and this felt very well set out with a good variety of tasks and puzzles. Staff were very friendly and 'in character' which made it feel more realistic. Spent a very enjoyable hour figuring everything out and it was at a good level of difficulty. Help was given when needed, but staff could control when we were given clues and what kind, which stopped us from relying on this too much. It's not a cheap activity for the length of time, but it is good fun.Hi 920rosie, Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed your hour and that there was a good level of difficulty. - Julia's FriendChester, United Kingdom27 contributionsWallace and Gromit Escape Room - good fun!5 of us did the Wallace & Gromit room - several big Aardman fans amongst us and only one young teen who'd ever done an escape room before. We took a while to cotton on to the clues but did get out with a few clues along the way! The set looked good and there was plenty of references to the films, with some clever Wallace-style puzzles. Unless there's a way around some bits which we didn't find, you need 4 people to complete the Puzzles but 5 of us was a bit crowded at one point and made it difficult to see the clues! We were a bit rubbish but it was good fun!Dear Julias_Friend, Thank you so much for your review and we are pleased you were able to escape with a few clues along the way! - ancajitaru20241 contributionFun activity with the teamOrganised an escape room as a team social, everything was very well organised, we had a briefing before hand to immerse us in the story and then we were showed to our escape rooms. The staff there was very friendly and engaging, at some point we had to ask for clues and we got a prompt on the screen that was subtle enough not to ruin the game but we managed to figure out the last piece of the puzzle. At the end of the experience we went back to the waiting room where we had photos of us taken with a professional camera for free. Really lovely experience overall, would go back there to try another room soon.Dear ancajitaru2024, Thank you so much for the kind review! We went to Locked in a Room in Bristol on Sunday 10th December 2023 and four of us completed the Wallace and Gromit escape room, A Grand Way Out.
We had a great time! The murals in the Wallace and Gromit waiting room were just fantastic, and so detailed, as were the little extras at the end. Barney, our Games Master, did a great job and we would like to highlight that he did really well to manage three teams completing the same room at once. Apologies for running off so he had to chase us down with our certificate when we escaped! ;)
The room itself is brilliantly decorated and themed with some nice audio touches and surprises. We have been to better escape rooms, and all the puzzles involving padlocks was a bit much: some variety would have been nice. Barney also had to tell us at the beginning that some of the padlocks needed an extra push to open them: again, not his fault, but better equipment could be used.
We are all big Wallace and Gromit fans, so we loved the details, the theming and the act that Barney put on. The puzzles themselves weren't the best I've seen, but Barney's act and the theming and the murals in the waiting room added a star to this review, raising it from average to very good.
I would add that having one Games Master for three rooms at the same time is a lot, and I think it would be better, and more personal, to have one Games Master per group, not one between three.
I also thought that the hints system, ( text appearing on a screen), could be improved. Instead of talking to your Games Master, as most escape rooms have, the hints seemed to be displayed at random. A sound when hints pop up would also be useful: it's easy to get caught up in the room and miss it when hints come up on the screen.
Thanks for a fun day!

Hi EibhilinMacphail,
Thank you for your review, we love hearing from past players!
Thank you so much for your in depth comments regarding our event, we are always striving to improve our experience so receiving comments on how we can improve are really helpful for us! While you see one Games Master during the front of house element for our A Grand Way Out mission, please be assured that it is not one person throughout the event for all three teams; this means we can give each team a tailored experience during gameplay.
I will be sure to pass on your glowing feedback to Barney who will be more than happy to hear that his performance was paramount to your positive experience with us!
Thank you again for your review and we hope to see you with us again soon!
All the best,

Belated Father's Day treat from the kids. As huge Wallace & Gromit fans, we could only choose a Grand Way Out and it did not disappoint. We (5 adults) travelled from Devon & London and it was well worth it!
Morgan was our host and was great.
We did discover we're not naturals at escape rooms (putting it politely) but we did make it out in the time with a few clues and all had a lot of laughs.
Highly recommend plus the area around there is a lovely place to chill after. Lots of restaurants and bars and there were lots of families with children playing in the water. Great place to spend a few hours.

What an absolutely extraordinary experience you will find at Locked in a Room Bristol. We travelled just over two hours in snail pace traffic to find ourselves running considerably later than the 10 minute cut off. We called, and were pleasantly impressed to have our booking moved to 8pm, this was not a bother to the team at LIAR Bristol! Our travelling was not in vain, we would still be able to endeavour in the games and riddles ahead.
When we arrived we were swiftly checked in, given clear instructions to where the facilities, fire exits and all information points were. Excellent.
Upon entering the waiting area, we were greeted by an absolutely engaging and brilliant actress by the name of Jenny. From previous visits to other (non-LIAR) escape room venues, our party expected to be plonked into a room by an employee and given a basic rule sheet to get on with it for an hour. This was absolutely not the case here, from the moment Jenny’s character entered the room, the teams were captivated by the magic of Wallace and Gromit.
The ‘escape’ itself was entertainingly challenging, and we were very pleased that everyone in our party found something they could contribute to. We thought we wouldn’t escape the room, but slithered out in the nick of time, which I think added to our enjoyment of the experience.
Overall, a fantastic experience, great venue, great game, we will absolutely be back here soon.
Thank you Jenny and Team!

Hi Jack,
Thank you for your wonderfully worded review. We always do our best to accommodate when we can as we know journeys do not always go the way we initially planned. I'll be passing on these kind words to Jenny who is a dab hand at our Wallace and Gromit Adventure.
Congratulations on the escape and we cannot wait to have you back again for round two!
Kind regards,
Matt

I have done a few escape rooms and this one is close to being the bottom. A friend and I did the Parallax room (recommended 3+ members but we did it as a pair) and if you like 4 digit answers with lots of 4 digit locks then this is the room for you. It was a very linwar escape room and I actually think 2 people is the perfect number - I cannot imagine having any more in the room as it was quite a small room but also you could not work on anything in parallel so any more than 2 and I think you would be bored waiting for the next clue.
The story was very very poor and the acting at the intro incrediblely bad. It was stilted, rambling and took far too long and instead of making you invest in the narrative just made you want to get on with it - honestly it was so bad I was snorting with laughter while simultaneously being mortified for everyone in the room.
There were also some parts of the puzzles that were quite frustrating and felt out of place or out of character
Overall would not recommend or go back as the room was boring, the puzzles were boring, the characters and story was boring. We completed parallax as a 2 person in 49 minutes which gives you an indication of the difficulty.

Hi Matthew T,
Thanks for your review, of course we always appreciate any of our guest's feedback whether good or bad and congratulations on your escape.
Our focus for all of our games is on teamwork and collaboration which is why we always opt to be linear in our puzzles. Whilst some other escape rooms promote working solo on their puzzles for the fastest possible escape time, we like our customers to leave with the memories of working and solving the problems together whilst they progress through the experience as a team.
I can't comment much on the rooms being small because that's subjective - but it is the first time we've heard of it in 8 years!
I must say that it is severely disappointing to read that you were "snorting with laughter at the staff's bad acting". Our staff are very passionate within their roles and given our other 1500 overwhelmingly positive reviews (the majority referencing them directly) it is not something that we will look to change at all.
Clearly we are not the escape room for you and that is more than acceptable as everyone has a preference, however we do hope you find what you are looking for.
Kind regards,
Oliver

An excellent evening!
We enjoyed our time here. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming (even when we were the only team booked in that evening on the last time slot), they all were very good at their jobs and customer experience - we loved the live acting initially as well, it really set the scene.
We did the escape room ‘jungle’ and we loved it. The room decorations were fab and the room was awesome in general! The room was challenging and we did need clues but the team helped us through and we managed to escape with under 5 minutes remaining.
Thank you locked in a room! It definitely gave us a buzz after leaving.

Friendly staff. Locker provided to put your stuff in. Fun briefing with some helpful advice to get the best out of the experience. You're not actually locked in the room and can leave to use the toilets or take a minute outside if you need to. There is a separate exit door to unlock. I wouldn't recommend the experience for young children, not because it's scary (at least not the one we did), but because if they get bored it'll make the challenges harder. But it's ideal for secondary school kids and family experiences get harder to pull off that age. We did Jungle, which was the easiest, but still only has a 60% success rate (others are about 40%). We were thrilled to make it out with a couple of minutes to spare and appreciated the free team photo at the end.

This is an incredibly well organised escape room.
They have a clear entry point, designated lockers and time to settle in before a briefing first everyone doing a room.
We did the jungle room - the easiest room at 60% success rate.
It is a well themed room and we managed to get out! Something we haven’t done before which was cool and the certificate is a nice touch!
The employees are a credit to the attraction and obviously loved their jobs, the rooms and making the experience enjoyable for all ages.
I gave a 4 rather than a 5 (and wavered between the 2) purely on the fact the vast majority of the puzzles were lock related and it was linear. I prefer a bit more variety in puzzle type but nevertheless an excellently done room and I’d recommend the venue without hesitation to all ages.

Hi EctoplamFantasia,
Thank you for your amazing review! We're glad to hear that you had a great time with the Jungle room and that you thought it was all well organised. I will also be sure to pass your lovely words on over to the staff.
We are always on the search for ways to improve and change up the games so your feedback is very important, so thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding the padlocks and linear-nature of the room, these all really help shape how we look to things moving forward.
Hopefully we see you again for another mission soon!

Just back from a brilliant time at the Escape room. It was a huge amount of fun with my daughter and her friends (13 Year olds).
Ben and Matt made us feel completely at ease. The actor at the start was very good at keeping in character despite the sarcastic remarks😆… we made it with just a few seconds to go!…
Would recommend as a great family or friends experience.

Tried Parallax room with 4 friends. It was the worst escape room experience ever. The puzzles were based on a basic logic and there was nothing but just unlocking combination locks. There was no narrative to the story or the information shared or the room itself. Paying £25 to experience this and finishing the room in half an hour is waste of money. I do not recommend.

Hi Pzmo,
Thank you for your review and feedback. It's disappointing to hear that unlike the majority of our guests, you found our experience lacking. Without giving too much away for other future escapees, we have to disagree about the internals of our room and what we offer.
Parallax has an interwoven story line that connects to other experiences we have at the Bristol venue, with plenty of puzzles incorporating electronics, lateral thinking, dexterity and of course some padlocks along the way. Our team also works hard to provide a backstory to the room, driven with live actors to set up the narrative and scene as a part of the experience which all teams receive unless running late.
Our aim is to give a 5* experience to all ages and abilities and we're proud to offer that to nearly all of our prior guests however on this occasion we did not meet your standards and for that we of course apologise.
Kind regards,
Matt

So you start off standing outside the doors that everyone has tried to open and failed as the team inside are resetting the rooms from the previous parties. Then you go in and are asked for a team name. (Think of before to avoid embarrassment) you then are led to some lockers to put away your items and sat in a room where some brilliant people come out to perform an introduction for you. After this you are led to the room and I would say it is not easy but you do get prompts (however ours were a step or two behind where we were). If you wear reading glasses bring some and use the paper and pencil given (hopefully in all rooms) we did parallax. Got out with almost 10 mins left and it was good fun.

Can we go with children? What’s the minimum age? It’s ok to take a baby in a carrier? And a toddler? Thanks
Written 10 January 2019
Hi Laura,
No minimum age but we'd recommend that children under 12 might not find it engaging so please bare that in mind! Children aged 10 and under are half price, children aged 5 and under are free. All the rooms are fine for carriers however I would not recommend our Jungle room for very young children! Please be aware that the event has loud noises and is considerably dark but is not 'scary' or horror themed.
Kind Regards,
Locked In A Room Team

Hi Debbie!
Good question - Infinity is our medium difficulty game at a 50% success rate. Parallax is our slightly more advanced game at a 40% success rate.
We recommend selecting Infinity if this is your first time playing an escape game or if there are younger participants in your group. Hope this helps!

Is this suitable for a team of just 2 people? Thank you.

Hi there!
Yes, you can! There is the option to book for 2 players on our website, however, our games were designed in mind for groups of 3 or more so couples may find them trickier! Infinity is a 50% success rate and Parallax is a 40% success rate. Hope this helps!

Do you change the story's regularly or once you've done it would that mean you couldn't really do it again?
Written 4 July 2017
No they don't change it. I wouldn't think you'd want to do it again because it would be like seeing a movie twice - you'd remember bits. However they do have a second scenario so you can go back and do a different room. Or there are lots of different escape room companies around so if you enjoy them you'll be able to find another good one to try.

Whats the price please were is it in bristol
Written 30 April 2017
Hi Jorob12,
The price is £20 per person and we're located just at the bottom of Park Street, opposite College Green. The street name is Unity Street - hope this helps!

Hi Helen,
There is parking on the street outside (Unity Street) but it is very limited!
We recommend either parking Trenchard Street car park or College Green car park which are both a short walk away from the venue. Hope this helps!
