Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for the one night, and wouldn’t wish to stay any longer - especially if visiting Cambridge on holiday. Don’t let the beautiful exterior fool you, the actual accommodation is extremely basic and not worth the money. We knew it would be student halls, but these are some of the worse I’ve seen. From the overall musky smell of the building to a lack of air and breeze, it really was an unpleasant stay. Honestly, just book a cheap chain hotel for probably the same price. Also felt unsafe, as there’s no locks on the windows and it was just a case of shutting the door and hoping it was locked. Even though you may be staying when students are on holiday, there are still students around and I think that’s pretty rubbish for them to be quite honest. Bathroom was also a pod, so expect airline style bathroom breaks with no room to manoeuvre. This is a great place if you just want a place to rest your head, but for what I paid I am very disappointed with the overall experience. Just to add this is not an accessible place by any means - steep stairs everywhere, so not ideal for carrying luggage.

One of the larger colleges in Cambridge for tourists to visit, Christ's College offers a pleasant glimpse into what student life in Cambridge is about. You can walk around the extensive courts and garden, but not enter the facilities as such. However, entrance is free and available all year-round (see homepage). The garden is especially niece, ideal to take a temporary reprieve fom the bustle and hustle in the city. Founded in 1437, some buildings of the current college date back to the 17th century. Well worth a visit, especially since it's free. You can download a map from their homepage.

We were passing by and noticed the door was open, so we took a peep inside. The gardens and flowerbeds are superb. We took a good look around without being moved along by anyone and enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. Nice statue of a young Charles Darwin tucked away in a secluded area. Well done Christ’s College.

This was our first college tour in the official Cambridge open day. We had not booked but it was early and no issue getting in and eagerly greeted. A lovely college with a mix of new and old buildings. I would say a medium sized college for Cambridge. Excellent location if you like town centre. Rooms were big for students. Lovely gardens. Swimming pool. Darwin and Milton went here as did Ali G! Lol. Very pleased we saw this college and student showing us around was full of knowledge. Impressive

Central location, good clean accommodation.
The Porters, Colin and Lydia, were so welcoming and helpful in providing information about places to visit and venues to eat. Such a great start to our mini break.
Quiet accommodation in beautiful surroundings.

Instead of staying in a conventional hotel, the next time you are in Cambridge, try this undergraduate accommodation.
Christ's College is in the centre of Cambridge, and the accommodation is inside the college campus. The room was basic, but spacious, and very comfortable.
It reminded me of my undergraduate days. Breakfast in the morning was in the college canteen. Again reminded me of my undergraduate days in my college canteen.
Would recommend this to all travellers. Of course, this is not available during term times, as the rooms are used by undergraduates.

Though the college is beautiful, the rooms they rent out are in a hideous building called the "typewriter" hidden in the back. The concrete monstrosity was built by some sadistic architect and looks like a mash up of a Mayan Temple and the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The warren of randomly placed rooms makes the Winchester Mansion look like an open plan building. You have to drag your suitcases up endless flights of stairs and there is no elevator. The Spartan rooms make a Russian Prison seem luxurious in comparison and if you have the misfortune of being here in the summer, there is, of course, no air conditioning and wide glass windows that turn the concrete cells into baking ovens. This is, without question, the worst place I have ever had the bad luck to stay in. Run, do not walk, in another direction….

Sir Denys Lasdun built the "typewriter" building in the landscape form of a cruise liner. His brutalist approach to architecture quite often divides opinion. You are correct we have no lifts and that the rooms are set at the back of the College. Most enjoy the 2-minute walk to them through the beautiful grounds. I haven't stayed in a Russian Prison myself so I can't respond or compare to them I'm afraid, though our listings on sites, such as Booking.com, clearly state the amenities, location and size of the room. We even have pictures of both the rooms and of the building. They are single rooms, basic, but comfortable. Many Students spend up to 8 weeks living and studying in these rooms so for a night or a week, these rooms offer incredible value for money for a city centre location. It's obviously not for you, and I respect that though. Next time, why not try one of our Superior Double rooms or Standard Double rooms. They may be more what you are looking for.

The gardens are all decorated for the coming graduation. Everything is brightly colorful, flowers everywhere, I would reccommend to come to the college around end June and start July

I was so disappointed with our stay. Booked 2 single ensuites directly with college, explaining mum is 91 and needed an accessible shower. Seemed to have a sympathetic response. The shower cubicle was a tight fit step-up cubicle and the ancient Mira shower so stiff I couldn't turn it on. Mum with arthritis in hands simply couldn't risk it. Fixed showerhead too, so of little use to her In addition her sink plug was horrible, corroded and grotty. Both rooms were above a cafe and on a street. The noise at night from passers by and traffic, and first thing in the morning, 7, from loud music in the café below was terrible. Pity the poor student who's meant to study here! As another reviewer said Brideshead it ain't. Sad.

If you have a heavy suitcase, I can guarantee, you will not be happy taking it up the narrow stairs. The corners and turns might prove to be just too much to arrive in your room in a good mood. However, the priceless quiet and peace you instantly will find once you've entered the gate, in the middle of a crowded Cambridge center, might be worthwhile the climb. The beautiful garden, the helpful staff, the clean and basic accommodation might just be what you like.
