Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came here for lunch with family as it was lovely and quiet for my newborn baby. The building is lovely to look at with original stain glass windows and original interiors still in place. I had the vegetarian roll and it was delicious! Great value for money too. Special mention to the staff who were extremely friendly and always happy, particularly the woman with the red hair who served us (sorry didn't get the name). Will happily recommend this place to others as a lunch/coffee stop.

St. Michael’s Church was part of a parish seemed to be unsustainable as long ago as 1550 when there were plans to unite it with that of All Saints in the Jewry. It was originally built to accommodate the clergy of St. Michael’s College founded in 1324 but which merged with King’s Hall to form Trinity College in 1546. A fire which destroyed the roof in 1849 led to the substantial remodelling of the church by George Gilbert Scott the following year and by his son in 1870-2. In 1908 the parish was merged with that of Great St. Mary’s, thereafter falling into disuse until refurbished in 2001-2 since when it has functioned as the Michaelhouse Centre, not only as a weekday church but also as a community centre, occasional art gallery but permanent cafe thereby acting as a source of both spiritual and temporal sustenance.

I had a really odd experience here. I dropped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning, I ordered my food from the gentleman serving, he asked where I was sitting up or down? I hadn't yet chosen a table but pointed to one I would take. He took the order and then promptly left to deliver food to another table. I sat down thinking I would pay later when the food was dropped down (he had asked where I was sitting) He came over and announced to the entire room "I need you to pay" I got up immediately and paid but felt it was done in a rude manner. I sat down again. He then shouted over at me, you food is left here, you walked away from it when you paid. So I got up again to collect the food and he repeated, it was left there and you walked away. I felt absolutely harangued at this stage and said I will try to get something right before I leave here. I would have left if I hadn't paid. The food was very good but my visit was spoiled by this bad attitude.

Oh dear! This used to be our venue of choice for lunch in Cambridge, but no more.
Gone is the selection of salads and other healthy foods and in its place there is a lot of starchy buns etc.
When we visited the lunch options were limited to two: quiche - fine - but salmon quiche! Yuk. Or soup, described as squash and chili, which we ordered. It was inedible. Its colour was green (squash???) and it tasted cabbagey, but the chili element was overwhelming to the point of inedibility, even though I am used to spicy food.
Sorry, St M's, we won't be back. Such a shame.

An old church, converted into a cafe. Still used as a church. Food all appears to be homemade. Not sure if it is vegetarian, but certainly you will get a good quiche, salad, soup etc. Scones, cake, coffee. A good place to eat with friends.

Good place for a drink with some interesting history. There is a cafe at one end with balcony seating and a chapel at East end. Last remains of Michaelhouse college.

Excellent choice of hot & cold food reasonably priced & served with a smile. We had pizza slice with salad for £7 & an indulgent Bicerin for £3.10. More spacious than it appears with some seating upstairs. Would definitely go back.

This former church provided us with a tranquil setting for our lunch stop. Spacious and different, we stopped for lunch and couldn't stop looking at the windows and architecture. Excellent choice of food from sandwiches (hot & cold), soup, cakes, scones, quiche, salads etc. Efficient service and very reasonable prices. Venue also used to display photographs and paintings of local artists. Spiral staircase to upper floor of tables, so take care when carrying trays of food and drinks. Overall an excellent venue and good food.

We called in for coffee and a scone [cheese plain or fruit] and came back at lunchtime. It is an interesting place with a spiral staircase going up to a mezzanine floor, not for the fainthearted when carrying a tray! We came back for lunch, pizza and salad. which was reasonably priced. There is a selection for lunch. The bread is home made. Its worth a trip to the Convenience for the glimpses of the original church.
