Enjoyable way to spend the day.
I wasn't really sure what to expect as we were joining a group to celebrate an anniversary. There is a certain amount of snobbery around wine knowledge, but this was not the experience of our wine tasting experience with the Cambridgeshire wine school. The day was the right balance of educational content, challenges to common perceptions and the opportunity to taste some delicious wines. There is plenty to demystify and Mark is the font of all knowledge when it comes to wine. Unlike a previous experience, there was no hard sell to ensure that you left with a case of something, (although we did decide to stop off to make a purchase based on the tasting). The venue was perfect for the session. The lunch was generous in portions and most tastes were catered for. (Mark spoke about various cheeses whilst introducing the red wines, and whilst we had a taster, I was craving a cheese board by the end of the day, although i doubt I would have been able to consume much more than a morsel after the large lunch)! We also learnt how to pop a champagne cork with a sword. I would recommend this fascinating experience.
Hi Gwyneth, thank you so much for a great review of our wine tasting day with lunch in a Cambridge college. I'm delighted you enjoyed the day, found it easy to follow and that it helped demystify wine for you. I'm also glad you experienced a key distinguishing point between us and other wine tastings - we are not trying to sell you any wine. As a wine school we don't sell wine, it's all about the understanding and the fun. And I'm delighted you enjoyed the Cambridge college venue and the lunch. I hope to see you again on another day. Cheers, Mark

Fantastic day, informative, and I learned so much. Discovered, I actually like some white wines! Mark was just brilliant, natural humour a d he kept us all engaged. Lunch was beautiful, too. Added bonus was a short tour of the college and gardens. Highly recommended.
Hi Anna thanks so much for your 5-star review of our Saturday wine course with lunch in Cambridge. I'm glad you feel you learned a lot and enjoyed my down-to-earth style - I reallywant people to feel that learning more about wine is fun and accessible (not exclusive). I try and pack in as much as I can including that short tour you enjoyed of the Cambridge college the day was based in. I offer other themes, so I hope to see you again perhaps on another day? Cheers, Mark

    Wine tasting.
Mark was very compelling and clear. He is low key and presents well. His choice of wines was good and broad enough to get a good overall background. There could have been a bit more food - not too much but simply a baguette cut up for example, or chopped cucumber. I felt the small 2 pieces of cheese for 6 wines not quite enough.

Fantastic day at Selwyn college with the Cambridgeshire Wine School.
Fantastic day at Selwyn college with the Cambridgeshire Wine School. The day started well with our first tasting of Champagne with Mark proceeding to describe the impact of the climate, grape and fermentation process on the contents of our glasses. We were informed and guided guided through the complex flavours and textures from the many wines we sampled - starting with the whites and proceeding to reds. We learnt a lot during the day, with our ability to evaluate and savour the different wines steadily improving. The group was an ideal size - around 12 people enabling the ample opportunity to ask question in a social setting. The location was fantastic, good lunch and a great opportunity to see the college grounds. Fully exceeded expectations and we look forward to future events.

We went to the Italian wine tasting day run by Mark, who was fantastic! He kept our attention through the whole day with lots of surprises and made wine tasting great fun, as well as teaching us what to look for when choosing wine to go with food and when browsing wine in supermarkets. Useful, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable!

We hired Cambridge Wine School as a 90 minute preamble to a company evening event with 18 guests. It was informative, great fun, and really got the evening off to a lively start. The speaker gave an introduction to wine that pleased both casual drinkers & serious wine buffs, without being "stuffy".

The school does not sell wine, so the emphasis is on education & entertainment, rather than being a sales pitch, and this is to be commended.

Two of us attended an online "Meet the Winemaker" tasting session on Friday evening. The whole experience was excellent. It was informative but still accessible and fun, not pretentious.

We were able to purchase the wines in advance at a good discount and then enjoy them with suggested snacks and food pairing (both veg and meat options provided).

If you hadn't visited the area (Stellenbosch / Franschhoek in South Africa), Mark did a great job of orienteering you. He then guided an interactive Q & A with the winemaker which was informal but very informative. Even if you have visited the area, and I have been many times, it was still engaging and informative.

Personally, I thought the Chardonnay we tasted was very good but, of course, there are many similarly good white wines from the Cape. The Marathon Cabernet was outstanding and really reminiscent of the higher end Californian wines I have been lucky enough to enjoy.

it was very informative and very relaxed, I loved the pace of it. It was people sitting around a table just chatting. Great wines also. Mark is obviously very good at his delivery of this course. I recommend this course to anyone who wants to understand a little more about wines and how they pair with food.

Cambridge venue Easy to find on foot from station. Wine and cheese paring was loads of fun. Mark the wine expert was great, very informative and made it interesting and funny. Decent amount of wine and cheeses to properly experience the taste, 6 wines with 6 cheeses. The 2 hours flew by. Would recommend as a gift .

Excellent Cambridge Wine Fair organised by Mark Anstead of Cambridgeshire Wine School. The relaxed and informal walk-around format allows you to taste many different wines brought to the event by the participating wine retailers. There is absolutely no hard sell and no obligation to purchase anything, though the opportunity is there if you wish to. It’s very well organised with a little booklet listing the wines being poured by the participants, who are all knowledgable and engaging. There is a mix of the familiar and the unknown - great for exploring and trying new grapes and wine styles. Thoroughly recommended.

We were bought an ‘Introduction to Wine by Grape’, a three-part evening class at Cambridgeshire Wine School for my husband’s birthday. It was such an enjoyable experience. Each week we were introduced to something new, in a relaxed, but informative way. We were always actively engaged without feeling pressured. It certainly got us through the doldrums of the January blues, the Ukraine War, the NHS in crisis and economic gloom! I hope we are not shallow people!

We looked forward to our Tuesday night sessions. We were introduced to a wide variety of wines and educated about the grapes by our host, Mark.
Mark managed to draw even the shyest of us out of our shells with his well-placed questions. He was extremely knowledgeable, entertaining and charming. The group was small and informal. By the end of the three weeks, we all felt like friends. I would highly recommend this course for both beginners to wine tasting and those who have some knowledge of wines already.

I truly can't recommend this wine tasting experience enough! My husband and I had a fantastic evening sampling wines during their Introduction to Wine Tasting course. We've done various other wine tastings at vineyards but this was by far the best experience we've had. Mark was extremely knowledgeable and all the information we received was actually useful. He came across genuine and eager to share everything he knows. If you're looking at doing any type of wine tasting, I highly recommend coming here.

We have always felt we knew nothing about wine - we knew what we liked, but not why we liked it nor how to find more of the same types of wine or indeed new ones. Indeed, the snobbery around wines led us to want to become more knowledgeable and learn more...

This was an excellent evening learning about the basics of wine - obviously tasting, but also its production process, types of grape, levels of alcohol and sugar, colours, aromas and flavours.

The instructor, Mark, was very knowledgeable as well as easy to understand and was very happy to answer questions from the half dozen or so students. The tasting element was obviously a highlight but we also learned techniques to help us assess each of the six wines we tried.

We will definitely be booking some of his other forthcoming events this year.
