About
Marc loves telling the history of his native Jersey. Military and Battlefield History is one speciality as an and Accredited Guide of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides and the other is prehistoric history as a keen amateur archaeologist and geologist. Explore Jersey with Marc and let him bring history alive, whilst enjoying the fabulous Jersey scenery at the same time. Marc will vividly explain that in fact almost everything is connected! Tours are suitable for all ages, and you only need an enquiring mind and a desire to learn a little more about where you are. Away from Jersey, Marc also leads WW1, WW2 and Napoleonic era tours in Europe. Private tours are the best way to explore at your own pace and tailored to your interests. You travel in our own luxury, fully insured and licensed vehicles (7 and 16-seaters). Scheduled tours and larger groups also catered for. Educational school tours, and Battlefield Conceptual Studies for military units, also a speciality.

The tour with Marc was excellent. If your budget allows this is a must when visiting Jersey. Whether you are a military historian or just want to see the island in a day Marc can taylor make your day. Highly recommend. Not only did he give us an excellent overview of the military history we also saw a great deal of birdlife.

My son and I did a half day tour with Marc and our only regret was that we didn't do a full day. Marc's knowledge of his subject is flawless and he presents in a a way that actually makes you feel like you are living it.
Whilst we were interested in the German occupation we were also interested in the Battle of Jersey (1781), about which Marc was equally knowledgable talking us through the whole engagement and showing us were all of the action took place. My teenage son bombarded him with questions which were all answered to my son's complete satisfaction ( a high water mark that I am yet to achieve!)
At one of the WW2 sites that we visited Marc told us that he had some pictures of the aircraft and pilot that he was describing and that he would show us on his laptop back at his van, we were talking so much that we both forgot about the pictures, amazingly Marc emailed us a couple of days later, sending the pictures for us to look at.
A thoroughly nice guy, knowledgable, professional and conscientious.
Time well spent.

Very enjoyable half day tour, knowledgeable and interesting guide. Tour adapted to us to include areas where we hadn't previously been too.

I liked the military themed info and my wife liked the human interest related stories about life during the German occupation. Marc is very knowledgeable and makes the tour an interesting experience. Thoroughly recommended.

Our tour of Jersey with Mark from History Alive was excellent. He was very knowledgable about the history of the Channel Islands, specifically Jersey, starting from millions of years ago. We had all ages on our tour, from 15 to 80 years, which he managed to keep engaged throughout! It was personalised according to our needs and he went over and above to meet all of our excpectations.

Private tour in 7 passenger van was excellent introduction to the Isle of Jersey from our pick up at the ferry to our drop off at our hotel, over 10 hours to circle the whole island with stops at historic & archeology sites along with breakfast & lunch stops. Marc was an engaging tour guide with a depth of knowlege from a Jersey native who has studied many subjects. An excellent driver on narrow, winding roads. Customized tour to suit your interests; we had a stop at a wildlife blind built from a bunker at a marsh & a small chapel of geneology interest. Would highly recommend!

This was the family's first visit to Jersey and I booked the bespoke tour for the first full day of our week on the Island.
Marc drove us in his comfortable minibus to carefully selected stops over a fascinating day giving the four of us (aged 17-65) an absolutely superb overview island focused, as requested, on the military history and archaeology of the island, covering everything from prehistoric fortifications to the WW2 bunkers (including one bunker to which he was able to give us special access). He gave us first rate advice as to which places to visit and explore more slowly on our own later.
An outstanding historical guide, Marc was also able to answer all of our more general questions about the island and its natural history, as well as finding an excellent lunch stop we would never have found on our own.
A wonderful and fascinating tour & an excellent springboard for our own trips later in the week. Exciting, & unusual? Definitely! Risky? Certainly not; we vwere in very safe & sure hands.
I recommend a tour with Marc to anyone interested in Jersey, its military and other history & its archaeology

Best experience of our whole European trip! We did a private van tour and Marc did an incredible job showing off the whole island and hitting so many Jersey sites while focusing on our interest in the WW2 experience. He told us so many things we would not have even thought to ask about, and had access to places we would never have been able to go even if we'd known about them. Would sign up for another day with him - on any offered tour - in an instant if we were travelling back to Jersey.

Having lived in Jersey for 26 years this return visit with family and friends,
was a rare time to spend time together in a convivial atmosphere whilst visiting and learnig about things that none of us had an inkling.
The 16 seater mini bus was airconditioned and comfortable, just the right size to be able to interact with Marc our guide, who had a calm simple way of relating his wealth of knowledge.
Well worth booking a tour

What a fascinating experience!
Marc was a really excellent tour guide and host. His knowledge of the history of the island was impressive, thorough and entertaining. This was not a tour from a dry, dusty, history book, but lively, interesting accounts of what was happening in Jersey from the dawn of time right through to the present age.
Having previously lived on the island for over 15 years, I was amazed to be shown places and be given information about things I had never known about before.
The tour bus was extremely comfortable and took an ideal number of guests - small enough that there was time for anyone to ask any questions and for everyone to be able to visit the different sites easily and to listen to Marc's fascinating stories.
I would highly recommend this tour both to visitors to the island and to Islanders alike.
