Made it all around the walls on this visit to Chester (weather was kind). Nice, pleasant, interesting walk, with views from above. Certain sections are currently under renovation, so it's a bit up & downy (steps) in places. Tight squeezes occasionally. Watch out for the...More

No visit to Chester would be complete without a walk round the city wall. It provides great views and provides sufficient historical information to put it all in perspective. It’s only 2 miles and its comparatively easy walking

What a great way to get a feel of Chester in Roman times. The guide we had was brilliant and explained many things to us. Also a good view of the amphitheatre and river from the wall.

The day we walked round it was very cold and windy but didn't deter us. Did the whole circuit in about an hour or so. Interesting way to see Chester.

I did my first walk along the walls a few years ago and recommend to anyone visiting Chester, especially for your first time as it takes you around the many lovely sites that Chester has to offer.

Sorry for the delay in replying. The wall is free and open at all times. No guided tour but plaques explaining local sights and information at various points along the wall. The castle keep is free to to look around.

Loads of car parks in the centre, Grosvenor Hotel car park entrance - 1 mins to walls. Law Courts / river area car parks - 1 mins to wall. Race course / Market area car parks (lots of them) - 1 mins to walks - hope this helps
