- Katy2 contributionsOdd Experience!Broken interactives, shoddy tatty labels, clay pipes stuck with blutack with pieces dropped off! Doesnt seem at all of museum standard. Odd scrappy notes to say items on loan from the Grosvenor Museum. We went on the last tour at 4.30pm but very little time given to browse on own and rushed through a room and no time to look at any of the interpretation panels. The shop items have no prices. You are guided throughout- knowledgeable guide but double up as front desk person too. A strange set up to be honest. Odd mix of periods too- a bit confusing as covered Romans but also Saxons, medieval so a real mishmash of hands on. We live in Chester and found it a bit of an embarrassment. Many thanks for leaving a review for us. We do take all opinions into consideration. the guided tours are a new experience we are testing to see if they work better than self guided walk throughs so please bare with us whilst we are trying to improve our experiences for our customers. The Grosvenor museum have kindly lent us some artefacts as we do want to showcase some real Roman items. We wanted to make sure this is acknowledged in some form before making them a permanent feature. We have also recently restocked the gift shop so apologies of the prices were not on everything. We hope you give us another chance in the futureWritten 7 March 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 February 2023
- M Lawson4 contributionsVery interesting and informative, our guide was great fun!We had our first visit to Deva yesterday and really enjoyed it. Really informative, interesting and our guide was great. My 10 year old absolutely loved it, he’s autistic and doesn’t like too many people or too much noise but it was only a small group on the tour which was great. Would definitely recommendSalve! Thank you so much for visiting. We are glad you both enjoyed your visit with us. We are very happy that we have succeeded in being as inclusive as possible for as many people as possible so thank you for your feedback.Written 14 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 April 2023
- Lisa S59 contributionsWould recommendPros: Very informative, funny at times, great displays, got kids involved. Cons: Older teen thought it was more geared towards younger kids (but he joined in anyway and put on a good show!), one young lad was 'targeted' verbally as he kept getting an answer wrong, was a but much, narrator kept doing a 'silly voice' which was a bit annoying! On the whole it was interesting and fun.Salve Lisa Thank you for visiting and for your feedback. We have plans in place to make our tours more immersive and for the whole family so watch this space and please visit again.Written 14 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 April 2023
- Kevin B1 contributionGreat little attractionReally enjoyed our visit to the Discovery Centre which offers a ‘ Dungeon’ type experience. The staff were all great, engaging and entertaining - although not too sure I enjoyed being the Roman called Stinkus!! HaHa. The presentation at the end was really informative though a little too quick! If you’re in Chester, head in and have a little fun!Thank you for taking the time to review our actor-led experience. Our Roman residents do like a bit of audience participation! - Bernice B1 contributionEducational entertainment - history brought to lifeEntertaining time. The actors were engaging and our attention was held as we went through the various ’scenes’. The children (3,5 and 8) also greatly enjoyed the activities at the end of the show - dressing up, being archaeologists and Roman games. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at DEVA. - LeeLiverpool, United Kingdom615 contributionsFun and engagingI visited here with two of my friends on a Sunday lunchtime, and we were the only people on the tour. The person on the box office was really friendly and helpful and made us laugh so much. The talk was a cross between horrible histories and the dungeon type experience, but it was not really scary at all. We moved around through different rooms and settings and had a different guides dressed up in costumes telling us about the history. There was a lot of audience participation which was okay but quite difficult as there were only three of us and it did become a little bit embarrassing at times, especially as we were grown-ups. I think this is more for children. It may have been better if the guides had tailored the experience slightly to more adult scene. A nice way to spend an hour, especially if you have children.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 October 2023

This was a really interesting experience! The sets all looked great and the actors were clearly having a great time leading our group around. We picked up some good info about the Romans and seeing the ruins at the end was an unexpected bonus.

Roman History told in an amusing and entertaining way.
All the actors were fantastic and made the journey enjoyable whilst imparting Roman history. What they wore in battle, what they ate and all the inventions and improvements they brought with them. The actors very animated and audience participation made the journey a fun experience. We also enjoyed the interactive area at the end were you can dress up and take photos. Great place would highly recommend a visit.. We bought a joint ticket which is a good option both Sick to Death and the Debs Roman experience tickets together.

A fantastic experience for the family. Everyone was friendly and fully integrated you into the experience. The 9 year old particularly enjoyed the training session and watching the gladiator fight.

Great little experience with some really energetic and passionate actors! They took us on a mini tour of Roman Britain, and were quite interactive at times so don't be shy ;-) The kids were engaged the whole time (ages 13, 11 and 7). The actor led tour takes about 45 mins to an hour, after which there is self exploratory element with real excavations to look at (of the Roman soldiers' hospital if i remember correctly) and children's activities, dress up, mosaic making, 'excavating' etc. and lots of info on Roman Chester. A must see/do experience if visiting Chester!

The actors were brilliant, the staging and scenery was great and through the storytelling so many facts were given. My little boy was telling his Dad all about the Roman foods, the shields, the catapault and the gladiator ring. The archaeological dig section at the end was excellent.
