Stunning building

Fabulous historical building - took my Malaysian and my Russian friends there and it was full of different rooms, great stained glass windows as well as works of modern art.

Free to enter but a donation suggested - I like this approach. Cathedrals cost a fortune to keep going but I object most strongly to being compelled to pay to enter a building for public worship so the 'Chester approach' gets my vote. Of course many lovely and interesting things ancient to modern to admire but i especially enjoyed seeing... More

Chester cathedral is a marvel to see. You don't have to be religious to visit and wonder at its beauty, but it still maintains its positive, spiritual and relaxing atmosphere despite the tourists so it's a great place to take time to pause and think too. Its windows , arches and gardens are all a spectacle and well worth visiting... More

Well worth a visit. Apart from the grand interior, the stained glass windows are outstanding so take you camera.

Surprisingly large on the inside with plenty of stained glass. 4£ suggested donation entry, worth it for about 30 - 60 minutes walk-about. Lots of stone work. Can also pop up above 900' into the tower.

Free entry but donations requested. It is a lovely cathedral with plenty of colourful stained glass. We found the Chester Imp in one of the window recesses that is supposed to ward off evil spirits. We stayed for an organ recital; some pieces were rather modern but it was a different experience. Well worth a visit.

During a day trip to Chester , my boyfriend and I stopped off to look round Chester cathedral . There was a recommended donation of £4 each to get in , you didn't have to pay this , but you feel obliged to do so . We looked inside at the beautiful building . There is a little cafe inside... More

I was initially impressed with this building from the outside, but even more so when I took a walk around the inside. The whole experience was wonderful and for me the ceilings and glass work were just stunning. It also has various separate areas that are fascinating, including a lovely outside square which is so peaceful. Well worth a visit... More

The cathedral is really beautiful with lovely examples of stained glass, old and more modern. There is a rare example of a church court with fascinating snippets about old cases. The memorial plaques along the wall are quite "chatty" and amusing not simply "beloved wife of" etc. The choir or "quire" stalls are amazing with the most intricately carved wood.... More
