Chester is a city full of history, but tends to focus mainly on the Roman occupation, understandably so. However Chester has many different influences in its long history, and we were able to tap in today to the Tudor and Stuart eras.
Our fantastic tour guide Miles Mason took us on a walking tour of some of the tudor buildings including the beautiful Stanley Palace, which we were able to access and view internally.
The tour lasted 90 minutes and Miles was able to tell us many interesting facts about the Tudor/Stuart history in Chester. He was excellent with my daughter who is a budding historian, taking time to answer questions and gave her encouragement to learn more.

It was lovely to meet all of you the other day. Your daughter was an absolute delight to have on tour and I wish her the very best with her future career as a historian. Best wishes, Tom

As a disabled visitor, I found the tour to be very accommodating as there was an interesting halfway stop indoors (it was raining) that allowed me to sit down and admire the historic surroundings within a Tudor townhouse. Did not realise the tour had only been running for two weeks prior as the guide seemed very knowledgeable and was able to answer the group’s questions with ease. I was blown away by the city’s Tudor and Stuart history, and it made a change to find a tour that focused on the city’s inhabitants. Definitely recommend for first-time visitors to Chester,

“Miles” delivered an excellent, well-researched history of Chester, its key people, Tudor & Stuart buildings and their stories. He added an appropriate leavening of wit and readily allowed his audience to join in discussion. Highly recommended.

The tour was fantastic and led by a very knowledgeable man, Miles Mason! Very reasonably priced. The character was really bought to life and made the tour of Chester very interesting. We were able to ask questions throughout the tour about all sorts of time periods even though Miles was from 1603. I found the insights about the architecture and how people lived and worked in Chester to be fascinating. I particularly enjoyed the last stop where we were able to see inside a real Elizabethan house. However, every stop had something interesting and I learned a lot. I also enjoyed learning a little about normal people who would just go about their day. My friend Hannah and I had a very enjoyable time and I would recommend it as it is a good way of seeing interesting sights and hearing about things you wouldn't necessarily be able to learn through any other means.

One of the best walking tours I have done! "Miles Mason" aka Tom entertained us for a full 90 minutes in the pouring rain on a bitter, cold day. Not once were we bored. He has an in depth knowledge of Tudor and Stuart Chester with plenty of "asides"....

Quite a performer and entertainer in authentic dress of the period. A great way to see hidden Chester and improve your historical knowledge. Totally recommended.

Myles was a great guide: very engaging and really knowledgeable about Chester's history. He seamlessly wove in fascinating detail about the buildings and people of Chester without being overwhelming, all while staying in his delightful character role. We highly recommend his tour. Just a wonderful experience.

Miles was a enthusiastic tour guide who launched himself into a 400 year old Tudor mason. Dressed in costume he imparted his well researched knowledge in a professional and entertaining manner. He explained many items of interest that would otherwise go unnoticed. We thoroughly recommend you take this tour.

Brilliant Stuart and Tudor tour of Chester today. I was initially off put by the costumed character but he proved his ability to elicit the historical context of the era.

Highly recommended for those who wish to see the incredible layered history of this period in Chester.
