Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We often do a walking tour in new cities we visit and thoroughly enjoyed this one with our guide Sextus Scipio on Sunday 4th. Passionate, engaging and enjoyable for all ages. Time flew by, good value, highly recommend.

Titus was great, albeit some of his jokes were challenging !! A very interesting tour and we were shown parts of Chester I wouldn't have found alone. Good to see copies of artefacts found locally along with the history accompanying the items. Thanks Titus

I am a guide from another British Roman city, and was hoping to learn more about the Romans, and Roman Chester.
From the very first minute of the tour, Brian gave us a masterclass in laying out Roman history, in Roman military life in all dimensions and in a wonderful overview of imperial Roman history from 59BC to the collapse of the Empire, and reasons for it! Never boring, and totally flexible in approach to questions, in a remarkably articulate and intelligent way, Brian painted a comprehensive picture, domestic, military, political in memorable and beautifully presented terms.
We had the extraordinary good fortune to have him to ourselves (two adults), but reading other reviews, he is clearly an excellent teacher, able to present his information to any age group in an engaging and accessible way...
I hope that Chester realises how lucky they are to have him and that he is suitably rewarded for his encyclopaedic knowledge... I wish that I had had a History teacher like him, and I can't wait to read his thesis, when it is written! This was the absolute high spot of our visit culturally.... DON'T MISS HIM!

Went to Chester today and had the most fantastic guide called Brian who was dressed is full Roman dress and showed us around key points. We were lucky enough to have him all our self as it was Easter Sunday and very quiet. He showed us around the town and then into a shop unit where he demonstrated swords, helmets, plus a few other interesting Roman facts.

I honestly think it was one of the best tours I have had anywhere and would highly recommend it to anyone.

The roman who showed us round Chester had fantastic historical knowledge. We found out all about what significant buildings were where and what they were used for. He painted a great picture of what roman life was like in Chester and really brought the history to life. He looked the part and didn't squirm at the bitterly cold weather at all! As we were holidaying in December, a lot of Chester's tourist activities/guided tours were not running, so it was great that this one was. Would definitely recommend this to people of all ages interested in history

Who did an outstanding job of explaining just how remarkable Roman Chester was and showing us where the principal features of the camp lay in relation to the modern streets and buildings - something that will be very useful to me when I dig into the book I bought the next day!
It's always a pleasure to listen to people who really know their stuff, even the downpour didn't spoil it! It's worth mentioning that we were able to see some remains that are not normally open to
public view.

We were the only people on the tour and I had thought it might not run just for two people. However, we were treated to one of the best guided walking tours I can remember. Two Roman soldiers all to ourselves! They answered all our questions and were remarkably knowledgable and were keen that we got as much as possible from our time with them. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

We had the most terrific tour with Titus, who knows everything even my 9 year old history-nerd nephew wanted to know, & much more besides, with jokes & chat & great good humour together with topnotch scholarship; patient & entertaining on a very hot afternoon - very highly recommended.
