I love coming here, it's such a beautiful place and the oldest church in Chester. It's so ethereal to sit down and have contemplation there. I also love the volunteers who are so cheerful and lovely, if you want a cup of tea and get away from every day madness, come here sit back and take in the beauty

This church is one of the oldest in Chester and the architecture is amazing. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and welcoming. It is certainly one of the most peaceful places in Chester.

Beautiful building, and associated ruins, make up the original cathedral in 689 and now downsized into a parish church. There is a fascinating history and extremely knowledgeable volunteer guides who also staff the gift shop and cafe. I particularly recommend the hot chocolate. Well worth a visit to admire the church and beautiful stained glass windows.

Wonderful old church with a friendly atmosphere, beautiful stained glass window but church not to over-decorated. A young man was playing the piano beautifully when we visited, some nice souvenirs to buy

Small, but wonderful - loads to see inside and out - great mixture of architecture. Suggest that you choose a bright day to best show off the internal stonework and windows.

We have visited churches and Cathedrals all over the world but we thought that St Johns was one of our all time favourites. To say that it is full of history is an understatement. The thing is that we thought that what was on display was very interesting, it wasn't all polished untouchable displays as you see in many similar... More

Haven't visited here for a while but we were down by the river and walked back up the lane that comes out by the side of this magnificent chiurch. it was the original Cathedral of Chester and is still full of history and charm, definitely worth a visit.

We visited on Tuesday 25th of October after reading reviews of the church on tripadvisor and were not disappointed. The rector and other staff were friendly, knowledgeable and proud of their church. All were happy to answer any questions we had though there was amble information available inside the building. There is a small shop in the church which sold... More
