Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We love our city breaks and will take a walking tour whenever one's available to help orientate and get an insiders view on all the interesting bits that we might otherwise overlook. Our trip to Chester over the weekend of 12/13th Sept was no exception and we were delighted with our tour guide, Pat Jones. Pat was fantastic and gave us an insightful tour starting outside the townhall and Cathedral, around the Roman walls and through historic streets and the Rows with lots of interesting details and stories to keep us engaged. What with COVID we were a bit concerned about our trip, but everything was well organised to ensure safe distancing and lots of places to sanitise our hands with everyone behaving responsibly. We will certainly be visiting again.

Our delightful guide,Anne, gave us a great introduction to Chester and pointed out and explained the significance of many places. She also engagingly incorporated the history and personalities involved. A great 90 minute walking tour which has given us plenty of places to explore over the next couple of days.

We were part of a group of around 12 people going on the Women of Chester Tour. Our guide, Gail Shearer, was an amazing source of information which she presented in an amusing and entertaining way. She made sure everyone was gathered around closely enough to listen before every information stop, which we really appreciated having been on trips before where the guide has started before the necessary shuffling- around!
Gail was also careful to position us away from the busy distractions of the city ie.buskers, so that we could all hear. Despite living close to Chester for many years and being frequent visitors, we found out lots of new information and places , and the emphasis on the women of Chester gave it a unique and valuable
slant . We would highly recommend this tour to anyone. It was great value, accessible, packed with information and an original interpretation of a walking tour.
Many thanks, Gail!

There were ten of us friends staying for a mid-week break at the Hotel Indigo and Gail Shearer was our guide on a City and Cathedral Tour. Undeterred by the rain during Wednesday morning, Gail Shearer led us in an exemplary manner, sheltering as necessary but not skimping on the detail. Gail was knowledgeable, well informed and right up to date. We spent around 90 minutes walking around the main features of the city then an equal amount of time in the cathedral. Gail was a joy to be with and enhanced our most enjoyable time in the lovely city of Chester. Full marks and thank you Gail.

Tom gave us a wonderful insight into the deep history of Chester
The highlights were learning about why the Diamond Jubilee clock was finished in 1899.
The Ampitheatre was scary how the Romans executed people by using wild animalsAn archaeology dig found bones with bite marks.
It was meant to be a 2 hour tour but it was so interesting that we ended up having nearly 2 and a half hours.
Tom focussed on the areas of the city he felt would be interesting
My mum and I really enjoyed it

Having read good comments about The Chester Tour we headed for the Tourist Information Centre on our 1st morning in Chester. It was a wet morning which proved to be of benefit to us as we were the only 2 people taking the tour and our guide Liz was able to give us a very personal tour experience. In addition to a detailed history of Chester we were able to access cellar areas not able to be visited without a guide and by larger groups. During the walk we explored much of the city walls and the commercial centre with Liz providing excellent historical background and anecdotes in a very friendly and humorous way. We learnt so much from Liz that we would never have discovered on our own. This enhanced our second day when we walked the circuit of the walls on our own. We highly recommend this tour, especially if Liz is your guide.

Many thanks for your kind comments. We’re so lucky to have the shelter of the Rows here in Chester - it makes it so much easier to conduct tours in any weather! And we can certainly access some unexpected places…

Our visit to Chester started with a walking tour and we’re now thoroughly captivated by the history of the city. Our guide, Liz, was so knowledgable and, as there was just my husband and I on the tour, she answered all of the questions we had. As we have a few days here, it was a great way to plan which parts of the city to explore. We would definitely recommend this tour!

My friend and I booked a ghost tour with Liz Roberts. Even though it was a dreary evening she made it such fun.
Prior to the tour she asked what we would like to get from the tour and if we believe! :)
Liz was dressed in a fab period costume and as she walks like the wind it was really effective.
Liz gave us an excellent two hour ghost tour , she was entertaining, funny and extremely knowledgeable about all the story’s and history.
She guided the group to places that we would not have seen otherwise as were tucked away.
We would highly recommend the tour and Liz as a guide.

Very good 90 minute walking tour of Chester. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. You can't see all of Chester in 90 minutes but this was a good way to start exploring the city. No booking - just meet at the Tourist Information Centre.

Our walking tour of Chester with June Bamford was truly exceptional! From start to finish, June’s extensive knowledge of the city’s history and landmarks made the tour both informative and engaging. She had a wonderful ability to bring the past to life with her vivid storytelling, making each stop along the way a memorable experience.
June was incredibly easy to engage with, always open to questions, and eager to share interesting anecdotes that you wouldn't find in any guidebook. Her passion for Chester’s rich heritage was evident and made the tour even more enjoyable. Additionally, she was extremely helpful throughout, ensuring everyone was comfortable and accommodating any special requests or needs we had.
I can't recommend this tour enough for anyone visiting Chester. It’s a fantastic way to explore the city, and with June as your guide, you're in for an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend!
