Does not disappoint, impressive and ornate
Had to see the iconic clock , and it’s hard not to . Positioned within the main area , elevated and grand . We used it to find our way about as we always knew where we were by the clock . Worth accessing the city walls to get a close up view ,

    Must See Attraction
Cannot miss it while walking the city wall. Very attractive, and always viewed by a crowd. Stop awhile, because of the crowd, take a photograph or two, because you must, and listen to the buskers below, who appear to favour this wall trekking bottle neck.

Lots to offer in this historic city
We had a brilliant day in Chester. We enjoyed walking the walls and had a good view of the race course. The added bonus was that it was race day! We found a lovely place to eat called The Pink Lettuce, which is in the upper part of the Rows , so we got a view of all that was happening in the centre. It is a compact historic city centre and well signposted if you want to find particular attractions. The Cathedral cafe is a very atmospheric place with stunning modern stained glass windows and good food and coffee.

Close to the former Watling Street a legendary Roman Road, the clock is visible from Eastgate and also from the city walls and was installed to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. Good views down Eastgate and Foregate Streets from on the gate

This was an iconic landmark and highlight of walking around Chester's city walls with great views of both the clock itself, as well as the street up and down from it.

Chester's streets are very lovely and picturesque with a few of the original tudor buildings still remaining, though many of the buildings are fairly modern (19th Century) are were designed in vogue to be reminiscent of the style. We enjoyed walking the streets and seeing the lovely eastgate clock which apparently is the second most photographed clock in England after the clock in Elizabeth Tower, bet you're sick of reading that in reviews, eh?

First seeing the exquisite clock while walking the wall was marvellous. It is an ornate confection from 1897, established to mark Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

Descending to street level, we strolled on both sides of the Gate. Grand buildings line it throughout.

Including the luxury Chester Grosvenor Hotel where we enjoyed a delicious lunch.

If you have time this walk around the city is worth the effort .
You pass under the Eastgate clock so there are many photographic opportunities.
